At a young age it was apparent to all of my family members that I had the drive and desire to succeed academically; from begging to be quizzed on vocabulary words in kindergarten all the way up until taking Dual Enrollment courses in high school, they knew I yearned for a challenge. My grades have always been extremely important to me, but actually maintaining knowledge is imperative. Nursing is a career that requires an ever-present need for learning, which is one of the many reasons I have such determination to become a nurse. All throughout high school, I was bestowed numerous leadership positions, whether it was in athletics or student organizations. Being a mediator between various groups of people, has given me confidence in a hospital setting because a truly remarkable nurse is able to advocate for his/her patients and anticipate their needs by using excellent communication and interpersonal skills which I believe I strongly possess. In addition to these skills I can confidently deem myself ready to pursue a profession that is not only emotionally draining, but physically as well. Physically, I played basketball, softball, and volleyball for many years, gaining a multitude of awards in the process; currently, I still remain active and prepared for all of the physical demands that many people overlook when thinking about the duties of a nurse. On the other hand, emotionally, I have dealt with many sensitive moments in my life; about two years ago my family and I realized my father had been abusing illegal drugs for many years, which explained our financial problems we had dealt with, such as losing our home to foreclosure and many other hardships. He left his wedding ring for my mother, along with a large amount of debt and two kids, including myself. The difficult times in my life have primed me emotionally for a career in
