Why Nursing Profession

Improved Essays
For me, deciding to pursue a career in the nursing profession was not as simple as it might have been for others. Many people can recall several members in their family having a medical occupation; I on the other hand do not. In fact, I am the first in my immediate family to attend a University. With that being said, there is no family path I am intended to follow which gives me a chance to chase a profession that I have a passion for. Furthermore, I am a firm believer in God placing you in situations to impact others’ lives while influencing yours. While still at a young age I had to watch my biggest hero, my Grandfather, immensely struggle with his health. Due to family financial problems, my parents had to move our family into my grandparents’ …show more content…
At a young age it was apparent to all of my family members that I had the drive and desire to succeed academically; from begging to be quizzed on vocabulary words in kindergarten all the way up until taking Dual Enrollment courses in high school, they knew I yearned for a challenge. Physically, I played basketball, softball, and volleyball for many years, gaining a multitude of awards in the process; currently, I still remain active and prepared for all of the physical demands that many people overlook when thinking about the duties of a nurse. On the other hand, emotionally, I have dealt with many sensitive moments in my life; about two years ago my family and I realized my father had been abusing illegal drugs for many years, which explained our financial problems we had dealt with, such as losing our home to foreclosure and many other hardships. He left his wedding ring for my mother, along with a large amount of debt and two kids, including myself. The difficult times in my life have primed me emotionally for a career in

I discounted anything from the medical field because everyone was going there and I didn't want to be a lost number of people rushing to the same career, I wanted to be a little different.…
