Statement Of Purpose: United States Naval Academy

Searching for a college can be a challenging thing for a high school student. Most don’t even know what they want to go to school for. I was in the same boat as them until I was talking to my grandfather one day and he suggested that I look into the United States Naval Academy. At this point, I had never heard of the Academy. I performed extensive research on the academy and decided it was a path that I would like to pursue, despite the challenge it posed. While I should have also given thought to the other service academies, I was blinded by the opportunity incorporated into Naval Academy, so I never even thought about doing research on the other service academies. It is with these great opportunities that I will be successful in achieving my goals. As a graduate of the United States Naval Academy with a bachelor's of science and as an officer of the United States Military, I'll be looked highly upon allowing me to obtain practically any job I desired in the future. …show more content…
Through my experience as an assistant coach of my school's kindergarten-6th grade cross country team, I was able to truly learn what it was like to be a leader. As with most groups of small children, there are always a few who don't want to follow directions. This experience allowed me to learn my leading style and to develop myself as a more well-rounded person. While this experience might not have anything to do with integrity, I chose to write about it because it is one of my favorite experiences. I was able to touch the lives of those around me simply by volunteering my

During my senior year of high school, I participated in an Office of Naval Research sponsored competition called SeaPerch. SeaPerch pits teams of students against each other to create a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) and complete a series of underwater challenges. Every day for the majority of my senior year, I would go from school to work and then home, where I spent every moment of my free time working on my team’s ROV. Countless hours were spent devising new ideas, testing them, and watching them sink uselessly to the bottom of my testing tank. On competition day, however, our team excelled, scoring third out of over 50 teams.…

My most significant leadership experience would be when I was in the Girls Varsity Tennis Team. I had been in the tennis team during my highschool years, for 2 years. During that time I learned a lot about being a leader, such as what it means to lead others, and what qualities a leader should have. When I first started playing tennis I started at the position on 2nd doubles, to me I took it as that I was not good enough to play against an opponent by myself on the court. Which was entirely true, because when I began playing I was not any good whatsoever.…

I want to be a member of the National Honor Society because it is an excellent program with no “bad side”. NHS is a great way to give back to the community, it looks good on college applications and scholarships, it allows me to be a leader, and it is just what the name implies- an honor. Along with all the good it does, it is not too much of a commitment. I am a teenager in high school and have a busy life- adding another extracurricular activity to my plate can become overwhelming. However, NHS would allow me to help my community and future without forcing me to give up the life I have- I can get service hours doing what I enjoy and learn more about myself by trying new things.…

Introduction to the Topic Organizations need leaders who are able to handle a multitude of scenarios and a variety of personalities, all the while containing the innate ability to push toward the strategic goals. Resilient leadership can be expressed as, “selfless service over time from a platform of character and competence” (Dees, 2013, p.45). Dees (2013) sums up resiliency with a passage from II Corinthians 4:8-9, “We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God.…
