Higher Education To begin with, this essay deals with two authors and their opinions about higher education. Sandford J Ungar is the president of Goucher College in Baltimore, Maryland . He wrote “The new liberal arts”, in this essay he clarified the misperceptions of obtaining a liberal arts degree. The second author, Charles Murray works at an American enterprise institute, conservative think tank in Washington, DC. He wrote” Are too many people going to college? ” .…
I chose Sysco Corporation from missionstatements.com because I see their trucks all over the city every day. I know they are consistently relied on by thousands of restaurants, cafeterias, hospitals and senior centres as well as hotels and other locations that provide food daily in Toronto. As someone who has worked in restaurants and healthcare facilities, I have seen their logo often and I have used many of their products. They provide food and restaurant supplies.…

One organization at MSU that I am proud to be part of is alpha Kappa Delta Phi or “aKDPhi”. It is an Asian-interest sorority which I consider it as my family. The greek system have not gained my interest before, but once I decided to rush and went to their informational I was 100% convinced to join.…
I see the world in a way completely different than those around me do. I want to be light in this dark world. I desire to attend a college that will encourage me to grow closer to God and will help me to find and follow His will. I believe we were created to glorify God with our lives, but I need all the help I can get to become a Christ-centered woman. I am looking for a college where I can grow spiritually and where I can learn, not just academics, but learn about God and life.…
“Is College Doomed?” Graeme Wood proposed this rhetorical question comparing online schooling and traditional education; ironically, Wood depicts college and universities as expensive and adequate, but the online schooling, Minerva he proposes in his essay is quite basic. There are no buildings, students move yearly, and there are no clubs, organizations, or athletic teams. Founder of Minerva, Ben Nelson, suggests that his online schooling offers a more sophisticated education, but the students are not familiar with an actual college experience. College is about community engagement, allowing college students to feel independent; in addition, college provides resources and services that are beneficial for students.…
Schools today have strayed from the original educational goal of educating our population to a higher standard. They have focused on making profit rather than providing the best education they possibly can. Colleges today should focus on helping to spread education throughout the world in any way they can. Graeme Wood’s article “Is College Doomed?” shows a new, nontraditional college called Minerva. Colleges as they are today should be known as businesses rather than schools.…
Being a part of South Central Scholars, and attended a 7-week summer academy in hopes to better prepare me for college, I learned about Harvey Mudd. This non- profit organization persuaded all the scholars to apply to private Liberal arts colleges in order to broaden up our knowledge. Coming from a low-income family and attending a public school did not provide me with the opportunity to explore my options for a future career. Growing up, I had seen my sisters only discussing public research schools such as University of California and California State universities. When I heard that liberal arts existed, I was very enthusiastic to even apply.…
The idea of the university has varied overtime from the philosophers that preached it, the professors that practiced it, and the culture that embraced it. The ideas of Friedrich Schiller and Immanuel Kant in the 18th century still influence the university today. Friedrich Schiller’s idea of encouraging educational experiences that create a well-rounded person today are seen within any college campus’ union, or central meeting place. Schools spend millions of dollars providing non-academic opportunities for students to “get involved” on campus with one of the hundreds of clubs or sports teams available. However, the application of Schiller’s theories has lost its true intent.…
Colony: Serenity Aisle Mission Statement: This society was constructed to push humanity to its upper limits of mental and physical capacity. I want people to reach their maximum potential in all possible aspects that they set out to do. We want to have the smartest scientists, the most fit athletes, and the most talented musicians. Each person will have a specialization, but will try to stay above average in other aspects. We basically want to never stop improving.…
College is Not for Everyone Today, more people than ever are attending community colleges and universities. Often, a collegiate degree is a prerequisite to meaningful employment (Pincus, 341). There is even social pressure pushing many to attend. I feel that the university education system has many structural shortcomings, and that institutions of higher learning often do not have students ' best interests at heart.…
The question is posed, “Why are you here?” I understand clearly why this is a question this university asks every student who comes through its doors. I know they ask this because it is unclear in our society, why we need a college education. Many sources say that college degrees are useless and I have to agree with them. That one piece of paper is useless, as are most things in life, if the person who has it does not understand how to use it.…
