Statement Of Purpose: UNC Wilmington

Decent Essays
The opportunities at UNC Wilmington are endless. I’ve been interested in attending the school for years and the reason comes down to many different of aspects. A lot of schools in North Carolina have received great reviews from my friends but Wilmington is on another level. Every student that I’ve talked to about the school have had great things to say. Upon visiting over the summer, I realized UNCW would be a great place to stay physically and studiously fit. My plans after college require me to maintain a healthy lifestyle in the coming four years, therefore, I’ve looked at schools for the dining options, fitness centers, and student lifestyles; nowhere has compared to what I’ve seen in Wilmington.

Eating foods that are high in nutrients in order to maintain health and provide energy to the body, is considered as having good nutrition. Consuming too many foods that are high in fats, sodium, or sugar lead individuals to have poor nutrition (MedlinePlus, 2015). Once starting college, many students have a large decline in their nutritional health, and develop poor nutrition. This past year, I have been involved with McWell and my dorm as a Wellness Commissioner. I have developed and implemented programming in my dorm, like yoga nights and Wellness Week to educate my peers and connect them with campus resources. After a yoga session for my Fall Semester event, I led a discussion with berries on increasing health and wellness in my dorm. I found that this experience was both beneficial for myself and my fellow PW residents as we grew in understanding of the common ways we struggle to stay healthy in college and the practical methods that we have found to combat these problems. In addition, at Hall Council meetings, I have done mini-presentations for my co-commissioners on how they can include and work to improve…

Statement of Problem: For my research project I am going to address the limitations of the dining halls on URI’s campus. As of right now residents on campus only have access to dining halls from 7am-8:30pm on weekdays, 10am-7:30pm on Saturdays, and 10am-8:30pm on Sundays. There are even short periods within these hours where the dining hall closes between meals. This leaves students with the option of combo meals, takeout, or dorm food as their meal; all of which have low nutritional value. Low nutrition foods are not proper sources of energy for the busy and active lifestyles that students at URI endure.…

The freshman fifteen is a terrifying aspect that haunts the minds of insecure college students that become all too aware of their body type and appearance when they enter a huge community such as a University. It’s a change, to surroundings, mental well-being, and physical health. Young adults come to a college forced to make all their own decisions and health choices, which by all means can result in drastic effects to physical health and mental well-being. With this in mind, I believe every college should make their students health a number one priority in order to achieve success in academic life and fulfill the dietary needs of each student. Here at the University of Kentucky, student’s health is considered, but in a multitude of ways suffers abandonment.…
