Personal Philosophy of the Student Affairs Field Reflecting on my personal college experience and those of my peers, I believe that the field of Student Affairs provides a unique and even essential opportunity to help shape the experience that student’s receive within the university setting. I strongly believe that students gain more from their college experience learning and growing outside of the classroom rather than inside. Self-discovery and personal exploration through extra-curricular activities and interpersonal interactions guide students through their academic careers and develop who they wish to become as an adult facing the “real world.” Student Affairs professionals help to ensure that each student begins their track to self-discovery…

At age 10, I vividly remember my mother grabbing me by the shoulders from the school playground and taking me home with the fiercest look I have ever seen. Behind closed doors, I was forbidden to neither visit nor speak to my best friend Phillip or his family next door. She found out that although cheerful, my fray looking friend was dying from the “Unspeakable”- a curse from the gods. I never spoke to Phillip again, nor saw him after his family was ostracised from our community. Growing up in a household that zealously analyzed the political and economic affairs of the Nigerian society; I was shocked that no one discussed the “unspeakable” that cost me my best friend.…

Good morning, Mr. Horan, Ms. Jamie, and mom, and thank you for coming. Welcome to my Student Led Conference. I will reflect upon three assignments I have done in this school for the last two quarters: first, a Google Doodle I designed and made using PhotoShop in my technology class, and then a lab experiment our science teacher had us do which was revolving around heat insulation, and finally a music variation composition I composed as an assignment for advanced instrumental class. During this presentation I will not only talk about and reflect upon these three assignments, but also my general performance at school. My first assignment, one I feel was a learning experience that I enjoyed and an assignment I did well, was an animated…

I was fortunate enough to attend the 2016 H. W. Sumners Leadership Conference where I would have the opportunity to meet a unique pool of influential individuals. Most of my leadership experiences had come from group projects with students who I were familiar with, and the conference gave me the chance to become a team with strangers from across the United States and Mexico. I was not aware of how much I was actually going to get out of the conference. Through the elective workshops, I learned much more about my leadership style and who I could become as a leader. Through the speakers, I learned about the power of creating a vision and pursuing with unyielding faith.…
