After reading the Grand Canyon University (GCU) doctrinal statement and Christian Identity and Heritage, I have a greater understanding of what the school stands for. I personally choice this school because many colleagues at my job attend GCU and I heard positive things about the university but I did not know it had a strong Christian faith and background. The GCU Christian heritage makes GCU academic experience different because of the strong belief. They believe in something and believing in something is a good thing.…

Growing up in New York City, I’ve come into contact with a myriad of cultures and personalities, but I’ve always lacked a sense of small, close-knit community. My elementary school had 800 students and that number only increased as my education progressed. Mount Holyoke reaches a consensus of inclusivity and unique small communities for its students. The small communities created on campus by common interest or graduating class, encourage a myriad of traits that combine into the overall campus community. Mount Holyoke College achieves an aura of friendliness, openness, safeness, vibrancy, and confidence, all specifically tailored for the wellbeing of women, and all combined to create what it students call MoHome.…

Brian Mueller, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and President of GCU, evolved the campus from a small, Christian liberal arts college to a large, Christian university set on enriching the academic and life experiences of those who attend (Grand Canyon University, 2016). Advancing onto the first few rungs, The Board of Trustees, Executive Team, Academic Leadership Team, and Campus Leadership Team have all taken part in developing and cultivating the educational, financial, and life programs offered at GCU. From here, separate colleges have arisen, such as the College of Doctoral Studies, College of Business, College of Nursing and Health Care Professions, etc. These individual colleges are considered as divisions of labor, which are distributions of tasks to different groups or individuals to increase efficiency. Not only are various colleges seen as divisions of labor; Campus departments such as Public Safety, Health, Counseling, Student Resources, and Dining are divisions of labor.…

As summer started to end I was asked frequently: “Are you ready for college?” During my break I could not get over the fact that I have just graduated high school and now I am off to Cal State San Marcos. Summer seemed like a flash and college was creeping behind my shoulders. During the last miserable two weeks all I could imagine was that my hope and dreams were going to be trampled by my fears. When I applied to San Marcos I was full of optimism, not knowing that college would be harder than expected.…

Whether it was taking time out of my day to attend the first general body meeting of debate team or filling out the application for National Society of Collegiate Scholars, I began my success by putting my foot out into the unknown without fully expecting what I was going to get out of it. Having the adventurous mind to try out new things has opened my mind greatly to leadership opportunities, service, scholarship, and social justice. Topics and initiatives that I would have never thought to be conversing about or partaking in are now major parts of my everyday life. Through NSCS and every other organization or club I’m a part of, I have become a more active, accommodating, and out spoken person. To a first generation college student, obtaining success in college can often seem like a daunting task and many might shrivel in fear of the expectations.…

It is very essential, that the difference between sex work and sex trafficking is established so that we can move past criminalization of sex work and focus on things that can prevent trafficking from occurring within the country. With the use of my primary research I hope to distinguish sex work from sex trafficking, so that the attention on sex work can be directed to other factors. Other factors include, foster care system, poverty and health care system that contribute to the issues of sex trafficking. These factors are given less attention to but, if focused on can reduce the amount of sex trafficking that occurs in the United States. Instead of waiting for the government or other institutions to focus on the factors mentioned above, I will provide suggestions that a person, as a member of a community, can do to reduce sex…

USC Journal 1: NCBI Reflection I found the NCBI workshop to be a great way to gain insight into the lives of other members of the Summer START program, much of which happened on a level that may never have been reached otherwise. Many of the people who presented their opinions or stories also conveyed their passion, or even anger, over the struggle they faced and how they wanted to improve others reactions or thoughts towards that element of their personality. The leaders for my workshop started off with a program called Up-Down, where individuals stood up when the instructor called out a certain minority group, such as Jewish, lower economic resources, Christian, African-American, etc.…

The organization I’d like to provide is to work with the law enforcement agencies to a way where they can understand the challenges they will face and provide them with tools and information that can help them more to address the minor sex trafficking. This particular issue will target the local communities who have high percentages of trafficking. One of the practices I’d like to do with them is actually setting them on the same mindset of the young girl's trauma, to indicate exactly what their going through. Not physically but mentally aware by creating a black empty room and providing them with real life situations.…

However, when I moved to another high school, those “career-path classes” were nonexistent. I had to make my new opportunities. My interest in this organization is to provide a better law enforcement assistance to victims of sex trafficking; especially in a neighborhood where there is a high rate of “prostitution”. Many of the man and women who work for the law go into the streets without any training on how and what to do with the young girls who, in there are eyes are doing “prostitution”. Leading it to many cases where young girls are poorly mistreated from those whom they are suppose to “trust”. For example, Keisha, a thirteen year old who was arrested for the “act of prostitution”. In her case, cops were undercover and decided to ask Keisha for sex and a couple blocks away from her was her pimp watching her, so of course she was going to agree to what the cop wanted.…

There is such a disconnect in the world between business and faith. While it is understandable, considering the myriad of belief systems that are prevalent today, there still exists a place for faith in the business world, even if it is only in the way I conduct myself. After all, our core beliefs determine our worldview which affects every decision we make, including business decisions. Because of this, it is important to me to learn how to build a bridge between the two as I prepare to re-enter the workplace. My goal at Colorado Christian University is to build on my prior learning and work experience to obtain the greatest education possible in my chosen field while also integrating my faith and strengthening my written communication skills.…
