Statement Of Purpose: The Boy Scouts Of America

To me, being a leader means not only being the person in charge, but being the individual that anybody can look to for help, guidance, or advice. It is important to me that my leaders are supportive and assertive in situations of conflict and can handle scenarios with utmost courage and with the good of the group in mind. In the classroom, my teachers say they can always trust that I will have a positive attitude towards objectives and give helpful insight to any student that seeks peer assistance. I perform daily on a belief that teaching solidifies past learned memory. I take every opportunity to help a classmate in need for not only their benefit, but also the personal gain of being one step closer to proficient in adverse classroom situations. In the Oak Grove high school marching band my directors can trust me to step up and lead my section, my class, and even my band, whenever an instance of need occurs. Anything from missing shoes, to mysterious music mix-ups, I will always do my very best to be not only a problem solver, but also a positive influence so that if a peer witnesses me sharing the love, maybe deep inside themselves they will find the will to be a leader in their own unique way. …show more content…
Not only have I attended a leadership and scout skills development camp for four years, but I served on the climbing tower staff in the summer of 2015 as a merit instructor, a first-aid demonstrator/administrator, and as a meal entertainment leader for a total of seventy days. Before I left for Boy Scout camp for my fourth year, I attended a weeklong leadership training program called the National Youth Leadership Training. This course is taught by adults, but is executed and operated by the youth.
