Statement Of Purpose: The Arlington Public Library

Decent Essays
A place I volunteer at is the Arlington Public Library. Either if they need help with: putting books back on shelves, teaching seniors how to paint, or organizing book sales I am always willing to give aid to the public library. Volunteering at the public library also provides me with the opportunities to build a relationship with the staff and fellow teens I work with. The Arlington Public Library is a second home to me because I am always surrounded with good books to read, and contains unknown places to explore. My best memories took place at the Arlington Public Library. My heart goes out to the public library and I hope that it will stay around for a long time so others can know what valuable resource the library really

For my sixty hours of volunteer work I decided to volunteer at a Child Life Center which was in a poverty stricken area in Norfolk, Va. At the child life center my job as a volunteer was to assist the children with their homework, help the staff monitor the children on local field trips, as well as serve as a positive role model for the children. The experience I had at Park Place Child Life Center was one I will honestly never forget. Although I didn’t get any actual counseling experience, I was able to learn the ways that the non-profit organization received their funding, I was able to gain experience in working with the youth, and I was also able to make a positive impact on the lives of children who were considered “at-risk youth”. To go there every day and be able to see the change the children had in their behaviors and how much just some attention and affection from adults impacted their behaviors was honestly amazing.…

As I was searching for internships all over the country I was looking for a department that mission statements and values match up with what I have for myself. "Our mission is the reduction of the incidence of crime and the improvement of the quality of life in Arlington County by making it a place where all people can live safely and without fear." As I read over it more and more I realized your mission statement is different from many other departments. First being that your goals are realistic and very achievable, many departments goals are unrealistic like"end crime in this city". That would be great of course but not realistic.…

Volunteering at the homeless shelter is one of my favorite things to do. A few weeks ago, on a serene Saturday morning, my family and I volunteered at Loaves and Fishes. It was special to see just the sheer amount of people who had come out to volunteer on that Saturday. If you think about, they could’ve been doing anything on that Saturday morning. Yet, they decided to help give back to their community.…
