Statement Of Purpose: Pursuing The Metropolitan Museum Of Art

When I first came to New York City and learned that the Metropolitan Museum of Art (Met) presents more than-2000 education/public programs, I was shocked to the various and wide range of the programs that the Met offers. I cannot help but so jealous of American (especially New Yorker) kids and teenagers, as they have a myriad of opportunities to reach out to the world of art with those programs. Since I am already in my mid 20s, it was too late for me to restart my life and got a lot of accesses to the art world through the museum’s teen programs. I wish I could have same chances in my childhood, but I have not, and it is how I became interested in supporting the MetTeens programs and events, as it would be the only opportunity that I can experience

BAM also has the external benefit of having a mayor who believes deeply in the importance of art. Mayor Bill de Blasio attends many BAM events and his support of the organization as a public figure can be very helpful in raising funds as well as encouraging New Yorkers to take part in the many creative and cultural aspects that BAM has to…

I originally applied for the adult docent position as a high school student however, once I gained entry the coordinator realized I was actually still in high school she referred me to the Teen Ambassadors program for young adults. A problem that I would like to solve is to make art and science museums more accessible to people of all backgrounds. This concern has been brought to my attention by conversations with staff at The Ringling Museum where I volunteer. So often it seems that people see going to the museum as a luxury. I believe that if children were given more options to go to museums, it may help them to bring a higher interest to their education. Museums offer something a textbook cannot.…

At first, I was stunned! I thought I was hearing things, but the more I paid attention to the music playing in the Museum of Fine Art’s gift shop the clearer it sounded. They were playing a traditional Cape Verdean song. The Museum of Fine Arts (MFA) has pleased art lovers ever since July 4th, 1876 with a vast collection of antique and contemporary art (About the MFA). Its mission is to display diverse cultures from all over the world that challenge people to think critically and, by doing so, lead “to a greater cultural awareness and discernment”(Mission Statement).…

Effective Elementary After School Art Programs for Disadvantaged Children Art Museums have historically been the bridge that help to connect communities and schools to the art world. The universal language of art crosses cultural, racial, economic, and social backgrounds. Although schools start cutting fine art programs at an elementary level, the effects can lead long into the high school age (Dickson). There are many “take-home” effects that the arts have, outlined by Fiske, “The arts reach students not ordinarily reached…, students connect to each other better, arts proved challenges for student at all levels…”. This list continues with other educational and social benefits that the arts bring. Perhaps, the most shocking of all is that “Students learn to become sustained, self-directed learners, not a repository of facts from direct instruction for the next high-stakes test” (Jensen 3). When schools look at what programs can be cut, they look at the ones that will have little to no effect on students.…

Many people go on to discredit the arts programs without really knowing what they are talking about. An argument that has always been an issue in schools is that the fine arts require funding that isn 't necessary. The use of the fine arts in its numerous structures, whether as a stand-alone subject or coordinated into the school educational program, is progressively acknowledged as a key piece of attaining achievement in school, work, and the rest of a child 's life. However, as we go on to praise the fine arts for the quality they add to learning and life, the investigation of the fine arts are quietly vanishing from…

Art education is not something that should not exceed the budget of other schools that cannot afford it and instead be shared equally among all types of public schools. Art education is seems to benefit a young child dramatically, “The arts also contribute to the education of young children by helping them realize the breadth of human experience, see the different ways humans express sentiments and convey meaning, and develop subtle and complex forms of thinking” (Sousa) Although the arts are often thought of as separate subjects, like chemistry or algebra, they really are a collection of skills and thought processes that transcend all areas of human engagement. Art has its own form of educational value and students develop better interaction skills with their peers and the public. Being able to develop a bond with peers with their same interest’s help students open up and become less shy thus helping them build a more sophisticated way of thinking.…
