Decent Essays
As revealed in my resume, I am a proud member of Plymouth High School Dance Marathon, an organization that fundraises money for Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, Indiana. For the past three years, I have had the privilege of partaking in the raising of funds for this exceptional Children Miracle Network hospital. In the past three years of my involvement, I have played a distinct role in our collective donation of $85,000. However, this large sum of money did not come easy, and allowed me to employ the use of my leadership skills.

When we were only a month away from last year’s Plymouth High School Dance Marathon, we were a whooping $20,000 off of our goal. In almost all of my peers mind’s, we were going to fail. We were not going

Starting my Junior year in high school I was accepted onto the Illinois State 4-H Youth Leadership Team (YLT). I had wanted to join the team since attending the Junior Leadership Conference (JLC) held by the team annually, when I was a 7th and 8th grader. Beyond dedication and efficiently completing the tasks required of me, my personal initiative to strive for greater feats is a quality that is essential in a President, whose duties do not rely on delegated tasks from another individual. In addition, my previous experiences leading other organizations and communicating with influential members within OCSA’s administrative body has allowed me to gain the qualities of a qualified candidate. This past fall semester, I worked with the administration to assist the counselors in volunteering at and planning for Freshman Retreat. I received this opportunity as my past position as President of Heart-2-Heart, a student lead club that formerly organized the retreats. This experience allowed me to gain proficiency communicating with administration and executing ideas in a timely manner, which are essential characteristics for an NHS President to possess.…

As a member of the Inside Ride Organizing Committee at Mentor College, I assisted to organize, advertise and execute the 2015 Inside Ride cycling event that raised over $50,000 for childhood cancer patients and advancing research. The Inside Ride is an annual fundraising event that my school, Mentor College, has every year in memory of a student who passed away battling cancer in 2010. Having known that student, I felt a deeper connection to the cause and and joined this committee to help raise awareness for childhood cancer and contribute to the success of this event. The event took several months of planning to ensure that everything would run smoothly. I was a part of the fundraising subcommittee, in which my role was to organize the paperwork required for the event and count the money prior to the event.…

During my childhood, I spent an unusual amount of time at construction pads for various reasons, such as friends building new homes and my family looking at new neighborhoods. My father used our time at one of these pads to tie together a lesson. He, in his kind voice, recited First Corinthians 3:11 “For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.” He went on to tell me how foundations determine the grandness of the structure to come; whether that be physical, spiritual or educational. One day I would like to follow in my father’s footsteps and be a part of the medical community, but to do so I need a well laid foundation to build my medical education upon.…

Throughout high school, I have learned to overcome many challenges, yet I recognize that most of the time I cannot do it by myself. At the start of the school year my NHS advisor stated that she wanted me to direct some sort of relief fundraiser, given that Texas, Florida, and Puerto Rico were all devastated by hurricanes. As president, I was eager to make it happen because I, along with a few other members of my NHS, have family in all three locations. However, the main challenge was not getting approval from administration, but rather creating a fundraiser where students would actually donate. Most fundraisers done by previous NHS groups had failed.…

Many experiences in my life have changed my views in multiple ways, but by far the most life changing experience has to be when I was elected Daingerfield District Vice-President for the FFA. This experience has broadened my comfort zone of shyness and unconfidence, and as the FFA Opening Ceremonies say, it brought me “into the glorious sunlight of brotherhood and cooperation.” I finally began to realize after Greenhand Camp, my freshman year, that I might have a potential future in the FFA. With the support of my chapter, friends, family and much devoted prayer, I was able to accomplish my fears and officially announce that I was running for District Officer.…

As I approached the end of my junior year, I wanted to make a positive change through some club. I felt that a significant accomplishment would allow me to go to college knowing that I am capable of making constructive, worthwhile improvements. Focusing on my school’s chapter of Mu Alpha Theta, a math honor society, I aimed to assume the role of president. As election results came back, our advisor, Mrs. Gillette, revealed that another student gained more votes than I did. As I walked sadly out of the classroom, I promised that I would not let a position get in my way of success.…
