Statement Of Purpose: Interact

Interact has given me the opportunity to utilize my skills and abilities. Because of this, my confidence increased and I became a more outspoken individual. Being exposed to different areas in my community allowed me to learn about the issues in the community. It expanded my field of perspective and maximized my vision for the world. Giving back to the community through volunteer opportunities from Interact has been a meaningful experience. Therefore, as I pursue my hopes and dreams, I hope to take with me the principles and values of Interact and continue to serve the community. It is such an honor to have found Interact and to still be an active member for four years. I love being appreciated for my efforts and working with others to achieve a goal in the community, and seeing good results from it. The satisfaction and fulfillment that I feel when I volunteer is different from academic achievements. I feel more accomplished knowing that I am helping others for a good cause. Recently, I participated in the Rotary-Read In which involves reading a book to first graders. Although it was a small act, being able to convey the importance of reading and education to kids has inspired me to do the same in the future. Every volunteering work and activity from Interact has always made an impact in me. It has challenged me …show more content…

For my sixty hours of volunteer work I decided to volunteer at a Child Life Center which was in a poverty stricken area in Norfolk, Va. At the child life center my job as a volunteer was to assist the children with their homework, help the staff monitor the children on local field trips, as well as serve as a positive role model for the children. The experience I had at Park Place Child Life Center was one I will honestly never forget. Although I didn’t get any actual counseling experience, I was able to learn the ways that the non-profit organization received their funding, I was able to gain experience in working with the youth, and I was also able to make a positive impact on the lives of children who were considered “at-risk youth”. To go there every day and be able to see the change the children had in their behaviors and how much just some attention and affection from adults impacted their behaviors was honestly amazing.…

My ambition to become a dentist and practice in underserved community clinics comes from my experiences living in the Texas Rio Grande Valley. My hometown, Los Fresnos, is between two of the poorest cities in America - Brownsville and Harlingen. Some areas of Los Fresnos have more than 90% of families living below the poverty line with average household incomes below $15,000. Many who live near the poverty line rely on inexpensive or government clinics to receive health care. As a resident of this town, I have been a part of these statistics, as well as my friends, family, and the students I work with.…

National Student loan debt is a huge issue for many Americans today. If I’ve learned anything in the past four years, it’s to start early. Starting early can mean many things and in many ways can help you be ready for the cost of a college degree. First and foremost, when I say start early I mean in terms of education; setting yourself up to receive grants and scholarships because over time it all adds up. It wasn’t until my senior year of High that I truly understood how important it was to work towards a high GPA and really get yourself involved in the community.…
