Statement Of Purpose: Intelligence Analyst

I will highlight my skills, educational background, and experience as they apply to a Research Analyst in the Performance Monitoring and Research Bureau. My skills, experience, and education focus on aspects related to technical research and data analysis in order to provide recommendations to management and third parties for the purpose of planning and decision making. My background makes me a suitable candidate for this position. As an analyst for the past 10 years, I have performed complex research projects using data from multiple sources to create end-user products for the purposes of decision making. Most of these skills are derived from being an Intelligence Analyst for the U.S. Army. As an Intelligence Analyst, I was routinely evaluated on my writing, research abilities, oral communication, and interpersonal skills. Having experience in research and analysis for the intelligence community makes me a versatile individual who is adaptable and versed in many different research approaches. I also have over 7 months of experience working in a similar position for the State of California as a student assistant. This position was for CalTrans in one of their GIS departments. I was responsible for management and updates of databases related to the State Highway System used in transportation planning and engineering projects. In my 10 years of experience, I have used database management tools (Excel and Access), statistical software (SPSS), GIS (ESRI), and other software and tools for the purpose or research, analysis, and presentation production. Presentations and report writing were daily requirements of my previous positions so I am well versed in these requirements regardless of the subject
