Statement Of Purpose: Instructional Strategies Facilitrator

When I received the call from Mrs. Betty Cox offering me the position of teaching 4th grade at Owens Elementary School I never imagined I would have the opportunity to influence the lives of students and teachers in the Tyler Independent School District for the past 26 years. I strengthen and improve the teaching profession by being a life-long learner and accepting any invitation to train veteran or novice teachers in the areas of Reading, Math or Data Based Assessment. During my tenure as an Instructional Strategies Facilitator in Tyler ISD, I modeled appropriate instructional strategies in teacher’s classrooms trained in the Spalding Method. Even though I was a novice at being a trainer and working in other teachers classrooms, I learned a valuable lesson, when you want a desired outcome, it is very important to model your expectations. Instead of visiting the teachers’ classrooms and watching the teachers work with their students, I modeled and allowed the teacher to watch me work with their students. This allowed the teachers to see through my modeling where they needed to make changes without me telling them what modifications were needed in their instructional delivery of the method. Although I am no longer an Instructional Strategies Facilitator in Tyler ISD and currently a 3rd grade classroom teacher my principal allows me to host classroom visits from Rice teachers as well as teachers from other campuses to demonstrate how to …show more content…
Accountability is an important component in the educational process of our students. Over the years, I have come to understand administrators, teachers, students and parents should all share in the responsibility of being accountable for student learning. Some of these responsibilities standalone while others weave in and out of the accountability
