My grandfather and father were physicians and as a consequence, there was always an influence on me to be the next generation physician. We had a family garage, where my father and I used to repair our old-modelled motorcycle together with various other broken domiciliary machines and passed hours there. I was fascinated and excited by all these equipment and the idea of being an engineer in the future had peeped through my mind several times. But those could never surpass the family influence. I joined Professor Dr. Md. Mashud’s CFD group and started developing my skill on the application of ANSYS Fluent and OpenFOAM as simulation tools. Finally, I decided to use ANSYS Fluent for my research work on “Numerical Study of Flow Past a Marine Rudder”. During my research, I faced the problem with the stall angle at around 16 degree angle of attack of the flow. At this angle of attack of the flow, the increase of lift force on NACA 0012 airfoil section stopped suddenly and after that, lift force just plummeted. I started brainstorming to increase the stall angle so that the rudder section can work beyond its present capacity. Finally, I came up with the idea to use fish wedge or tail wedge section invented by S. F. Hoerner for solving the problem. Using this concept in my study, I solved the problem and made the airfoil section, 15% more efficient from the view of lift force with negligible increase in drag force generation. I have worked an entire year on my research work, but the PC in the computer lab, in which I was working, crashed just a few days before my final presentation. I lost almost everything.
