I have always desired a career that will make a difference by targeting populations, highlight prevention methods, and one that will be a challenge. Prior to obtaining my MPH, I had the opportunity to intern with the Georgia Department of Public Health (GDPH) in the Environmental Health Branch program called the Chemical Hazards Program (CHP). I assisted the CHP staff by creating and maintaining a database from their Environmental Health Education Needs Assessment on a Superfund site investigation in relation to uranium in private well-water. The health data was then evaluated, recommendations were made, and, as a result, I co-authored the Environmental Health Education Needs Assessment Report which entailed details of the project/study.

My education and professional experiences have confirmed my desire to continue along the career path of public health and further my education. Therefore, the Public Health Advisor role is one that fits well with my passions and professional experience. After completing the PHAP program, I would like to work in an organization at the state or federal level to coordinate a variety of public health programs in areas such as maternal and child health, chronic diseases, women’s health, and/or nutrition. I feel that the comprehensive curriculum will offer me the necessary training that I need to succeed as a Public Health Advisor and prepare me to pursue an advanced degree in public health. It will equip me with additional skills and insight of not only health aspects, but the societal aspects as well. I have no doubt that my participation in the PHAP program will fully prepare me for my future, and I welcome the challenge of serving large communities and participating in such a dynamic
