Statement Of Purpose: Duck Camp

Improved Essays
Ever since I attended Duck Camp, I had a growing passion to eventually become just like the TTM’s that were present. I immediately looked up to them and wanted to become one as soon as possible. I admired their fun spirit and the efforts made to “pump up” students. I wanted to be that “someone” that others could look up to. I can confidently say I have a very fun and uplifting personality that I know would be able to bring students out of their comfort zone and excited for college here at Tarleton State University.
Throughout my life, I have had to overcome some of the hardest obstacles. I was diagnosed with Common Variable Immunodeficiency, a disease causing me to have an extremely low immune system that forced me to grow up constantly sick

When I worked on my Eagle project, I had to communicate between my troop, the homeless shelter I was working for, the people I was buying supplies from, and the people who were helping me raise funds. I had never built a patio or barbeque area, nor had I refurbished a bench before, so I took careful notes from both a contractor and a handyman to ensure I did it right. To get the project approved, I wrote a 14-page proposal, and then raised $1000. Then, due to an irremovable deadline, I ended up doing the project the same week as my SAT and all three of my AP tests. It was one of the most mentally and emotionally draining challenges I had in my life, and not everything went smoothly.…

Personal statement The year 2004 marked a time in my family’s history in which we took a substantial step forward by coming to the United States. Before that, we lived through and experienced a lot of unspeakable things. Originating in Somalia, my parents understood that it was a place where nothing could be achieved. Civil war broke out, devastating hundreds upon thousands of lives, including several of my family members. Corruption infected the government, military, and all forms of law enforcement.…

The biggest struggle I’ve had to overcome is a personal one. No, I did not have to raise myself out of poverty or stand up to any injustice being committed but for me at least it was a struggle. When I was little I had a terrible stutter/speech impediment or whatever you want to call it. Think of the guy from The Kings Speech but less Royal and without an academy award. I would speak too fast, with a stream of partial words and syllables pouring out of my mouth occasionally tripping up and stopping and stuttering mid-sentence.…

In my life there will always be obstacles; it is just a matter of when, how life altering they are, and the attitude I respond with. I faced my biggest obstacle, so far, the fall of my junior year. I tore my anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), and had to receive reconstruction surgery in October of 2016. During my therapy sessions following my surgery, when my therapist would give me a set of ten exercises to do ,and I would do fifteen. Each session wore me out to the point where my legs would be shaking and it was painful to walk up the stairs, but it was worth it to obtain my goals in the most efficient manner.…
