I had the privilege of interviewing Linda Evans, M.P.A., who serves as the coordinator of Student Support Services (SSS) TRIO Program on the Yavapai College, Verde Valley Campus. SSS TRIO is a federally-funded program through the U.S. Department of Education by means of a competitive grant process. This program is designed to identify and support students who qualify by meeting two of the three requirements of the program. Qualifying conditions are they receive a Federal Pell Grant, have a documented physical or learning disability, or are a first generation college student. The SSS TRIO program has as it goal to motivate and assist students as they successfully complete their postsecondary education.…

Going into to college I had so many emotions, questions and thoughts going into my head. For example, wondering if I am going to make friends. If I was going to finally pick a major by the end of the fall semester. Wondering how will I fit into such a big university? How difficult are the college courses compare to high school ones?…
I personally think that community college is not easy and I can't even imagine how hard a University may be as well. In college we face a bunch of hard obstacles, challenges, stress, and even wanting to give up easily, but we have to keep our heads up. Based on the article, “5 Pressing Issues Facing Community College Students Today” there are quite a lot of issues students face when attending a community college. For example, the tuition, even though is just two years it’s still expensive.…
Furthermore, I helped at skyline high school where I was a part of the CCL or coyote connection leader in my junior year. In this club, I was an ambassador for skyline which means that I would help new students get familiar with the school, in this club we all organize and are part of the freshman boot camp and the senior graduations. At Smith, junior high school, I was awarded the honor roll for an outstanding achievement for keeping a GPA of 3.5 of the above for both seventh and eighth-grade year. As a 7th grade, I was nominated for the Junior National Honor Society, as well as the college-bound program. In the college bound program, I learned how to be college ready.…
The college campus offered me a variety of activities to collaborate with my peers. Although I lived with many students, the…
I admire College Board's purpose statement,"Challenging all students to own their future. " This statement describes what needs to happen in the minds of all young people today. Challenging students to take control of their future, taking it by the horns and making it a successful, important, but most of all fulfilling. Students today should not have their futures hijacked by anyone. It is theirs to choose, refine, define, and own.…
The primary goal of community colleges is to prepare student for four year college and university. The reason why student go to community college is because they don't have the education they need for a four year university yet. They also go to a community college because is cheaper than a four year college. Student also go because it really close to home. I also believe that the community college prepare the students who weren't good in high school to learn to process college level work.…
My past laid out upon a table. My GPA, my resume, my test scores. An unfamiliar man whom I met for the first time was frowning, turning around in his creaky red chair, while hurriedly trying to contextualize my life with just a few pieces of paper. For 15 minutes, he sat there, unhappy, tapping his foot, analyzing what I’ve “done” with my life. He took a sip of water and suggested that I go to community college.…
If I could go back to the past and talk to myself in September 2013, I would tell my younger self to be prepared for the next four years. I would advise myself to plan out my work and actually do assignments ahead of time instead of putting them off until nine o'clock the night before they were due. I would tell myself to not take honors trig because it was too much to handle combined with all of my other classes, as well as saying, that just because it was recommended to take a class, it doesn't mean I should've. I would recommend actually trying to do the workouts for field hockey before preseason. That way it wouldn't be so bad in the future.…
There is a variety of different types of colleges to attend. While universities are the most known, many upcoming freshmen, older scholars, and scholars who are seeking to take a few minor classes often seek enrollment in a community college. Currently, community colleges are on an arise for their attendance and knowability. Community colleges are having an epidemic that is causing its structure to be rethought. The idea of revamping community colleges is needed because finding ways to improve graduation rates, providing more assistance, and lowering cost will benefit all students who decide to enter into these types of college.…
Revamping Community College In the article “Revamping Community Colleges to Improve Graduation Rates” it talks about ways that people of education are working to help improve the graduation rate. While I am all for more people going to college and getting degrees, I do not agree with the changes that the article suggests. One of the changes that they are trying to enforce is the idea of free college. In the article, it states that “Bills are pending to carry out President Obama’s America’s College Promise proposal to make community colleges free to responsible high school graduates.”…
Community college used to have a reputation of being less academically serious than traditional four-year universities. But a lot has changed in the world of community college. Most importantly, academic standards have risen, as have the qualifications of the teachers. By the end of this essay youll find out what my career goals are and what college i want to attend to, and what area i want to work in after I complete college.…
True and significant life is found in Jesus Christ and because of my firm conviction of this it has been my primary objective to point people to Jesus. Being persuaded that Christ wants Christians and especially those who take leadership roles to minister to the needs of others, I have ordered my life to conform to that conviction. Ultimately, Jesus desires that each Christian serves him by serving others; this is accomplished in a variety of ways – feeding those who are hungry, teaching everyone the life saving Gospel, and by leading in a way that reflects the glory of Christ. It has been my immense pleasure to have had the opportunity to preach God’s Word to thousands of people over the past fifteen years. It is my sincere passion to see people embrace Christ Jesus as their Lord and savior and to be transformed by the renewing of their minds through the Word of God.…
