I am a back office medical assistant in a pediatric and internal medicine office. I am trained in both clinical and administrative work. My responsibilities include obtaining patients’ temperature, weight, height, and calculating their BMI prior to escorting them into the exam room. I may ask questions or collect information from patients as requested by the providers. I perform all routine labs, which includes visual and audio tests and urinalysis. I also obtain blood specimens by performing a finger stick with a lancet. I am familiar with normal laboratory readings and can alert physicians to abnormal results or other problems. I administer medications and prepare vaccines for immunization under the direction of the supervising physicians.
