Statement Of Purpose: A Career In Nurse Anesthesia

Three careers that interest me include a nurse anesthetist, a physician assistant, and a cosmetologist. My current major is nursing and I plan on pursuing my degree in nurse anesthesia following my bachelor’s degree. I have always known that I wanted to pursue a career in the medical field because I want to make a difference to people in and outside of the hospital setting. However, I also have a strong desire to pursue a 10-month cosmetology program in order to become a licensed cosmetologist. My mother is a cosmetologist and I have learned so much from her. I find happiness in making other people feel beautiful. Lastly, the third career that intrigues me is a physician assistant. This career is interesting to me in that it is still in the medical field, but it allows one to be more involved in the medicine aspect of things than what nursing does. …show more content…
They work in offices, hospitals, and other healthcare settings. A master’s degree and passing a national certification exam is required in order to become a CRNA. In May 2016, the median pay for a nurse anesthetist was $107,460. Most nurse anesthetists work full time and alongside of anesthesiologists. They do not require on-the-job training and the need for nurse anesthetists is rapidly increasing.
Cosmetologists provide multiple, different services depending on the expertise, training and location. They may work in a barbershop or a salon. They are constantly on their feet throughout the day and work full time. This requires physical stamina and being social with clients. Self-employment is an option, however, many also work for a company or another individual. A license is required to become a cosmetologist. He or she must graduate from a state-approved program and pass an exam to obtain their license. Cosmetologist’s median pay in May of 2016 was $24,300. This career does not require on-the-job
