The 2015 Case Western varsity volleyball team became the first team in program history to make it past the first round of the NCAA tournament. This accomplishment is undoubtedly a highlight of my volleyball career and something I will remember for years to come. As an individual, I could not single handedly have won a single point. But collectively, my team made history. As a medical student, I will certainly encounter numerous team like settings. Each member of a team has unique attributes that make an impact as a whole, the unique attributes I bring to teams, both on and off the court, are diligent, kind, thoughtful, curious, sensible, and determined. As a student at Campbell University I believe these attributes, along with my commitment to advocating for the LGBT community and striving to aid underserved communities, will be key factors in my success both as a medical student and as a future physician. …show more content…
As a student athlete, being a part of a team has required the use of this understanding in numerous situations. In osteopathic medicine, finding the wholeness and unique characteristics each patient presents are crucial pieces of holistic treatment. In addition to finding these characteristics, advocating and understanding communities facing injustice in healthcare implements itself in primary care medicine, as patients usually encounter these physicians first.
