Although children need more education to get themselves, the next generation, out of poverty, they are just lacking the motivation to strive and achieve great things.Motivation is key to success in anything people do, these students need to learn to strive and work hard to reach their goals. Also, a 14 percentage point achievement gap existed between the students who received free or reduced-priced meals and those who didn’t.(Superville). Children who couldn’t afford the meals at school often struggle because they more than likely can’t afford the necessary school supplies to succeed. Often times, these are the only meals children receive a day, which can lead to them stressing about where their next meal is going to come from once the weekend or even dinner comes. In 1998, more than 13 million (19% of all children) under the age of 18 lived in families living below the poverty line.(Brady-Smith 1904). With this many children living in poverty this can cause the graduation rates to go down. Since children in poverty are more likely to do worse in school than others,the future of the nation is going to face many struggles. In New York, the city and state spent $100 million on textbooks (Bellafante). Providing students with new and up to date textbooks, this is preparing them for what the future actually holds. For example, using a textbook from the year 1990 is useless to today’s society compared to using a textbook from 2013- to the present. Also in other states all across the Nation putting extra money into schools is really paying off. In Utah an investment had helped almost 99% of students avoid special education in Kindergarten (Popper). It’s just amazing how the extra money can help fund so many needed programs to help these students perform better in school. In Malawi, Africa the government puts 18% of its total budget to the education sector (Education Ministry Calls for Collaborated Efforts to Improve Education System). Showing the students how important they are by giving so much, it can truly motivate them to do their best in school if they feel like there is a ton of support behind them. On the other hand, it’s not only the supplies that need the extra money, it’s the school environments. Recently, “researchers said that nearly 40 percent of public schools are planning renovations over the next two years.” (Devarics).
