Just over a month ago I filed my paperwork with State Elections Enforcement Commission to seek another term representing the people of the 11th Senatorial District. As part of the process of seeking re-election I must raise $15,000, and receive 300 contributions from friends and neighbors who live in New Haven, Hamden and North Haven in order to qualify for public financing and have the resources to run a positive issue-based campaign.

Can you help with a $100, $50, $25, or $10 contribution today?

Serving the people of Connecticut as the Senate President is an experience only surpassed by the joy I’ve received by representing the residents of the 11th Senate District for the past two decades.

It’s no secret that Connecticut’s budget faces real challenges and there are no easy answers. Qualifying quickly for public financing will ensure we have a well-funded campaign that can deliver a positive message throughout the 11th district that will make us all proud. I humbly ask that you chip in $100, $50, or whatever you can afford to help us qualify for public financing right away. Remember to complete the enclosed contribution certification form and that only personal checks and cash contributions of $100 or less per person are permissible. Thank you for your continued friendship and

I represent Alabama’s Second Congressional District, a predominantly Republican district where federalism, additional legislation, a bicameral legislature, and the Electoral College are vital to success. Covering the southeast corner of the state, Alabama’s Second Congressional District is a region marked by diversity. From large cities and major military installations to sprawling farmland and small towns, there are a variety of economic and social interests at play. Home to Maxwell-Gunter Air Force Base and Fort Rucker, this region is predominantly known for its defense facilities. As the largest employers in the district, these military installations are a great boon as they infuse money into the local economy.…

The power of an interest group varies depending on the time and specific group, but generally speaking, their power and presence remains a constant on the political scene today. Today, countless interest groups are trying to address the issue of the rising cost of education in the U.S. If I or individuals like myself, who just finished taking an introduction to Political Science class in college, were interested in addressing the rising cost of education in the U.S., the best way this could be accomplished would be to establish a public interest group to inform the public about the…

Due to the United States’ crippling debt, the amount of money needed to fundraise has increased each year (Mann and Ornstein 78). As a result, the increased amount of money made congressional fundraising an integral part of a politician’s career. Consequently, making congressional fundraising a job for the politicians created problems. Paul Hernson, a political scientist at the University of Connecticut, found that financial consultants can increase a candidate’s chance of winning an election (866). This means that congressional fundraising encourages politicians to win elections based on their financial skills instead of their political skills.…
