All of the shoes that they are getting are dependently from donations. Also there are times that the donations are not enough and some are not in the correct sizes and according to Blake it was heartbreaking to see that they were still children that are left barefoot after the shoe drop-offs. After that he went traveling around from village to village and this opened his eyes to the reality and sad feeling about the real effects of being shoeless. He realized that being shoeless means having blisters, sores, and infections and this is happening to children in Argentina and that is the moment where he felt he wanted to do something to change the reality he just saw. Students in science teacher Katherine Levensailor’s first period class made sandals with Amazon’s delivery cardboard boxes inside and outside of room 803, on Oct. 19 for children in Haiti, victims of natural disasters. Haiti is still recovering from a catastrophic magnitude 7.0 earthquake that occurred in 2011 and Hurricane Matthew that claimed the lives of more than 877 people. These disasters left many children without shoes, causing them to have injuries such as cuts, sores, and infections on their feet. The sandals made from this project were sent to Soles4Souls, an organization that “collects shoes and sends them overseas. They send them to places where people don’t have shoes and distribute them,” said Levensailor.…

Small Groups, Big Impact Have you ever felt like the odds were against you? Like there were no hopes in fixing a global issue because you were only one person? From the essay “How to Melt the Arctic,” written by John Bocknek, he says, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” The author enforces that no matter the problem, a person or a group of people can change a global issue. In today’s society, people underestimate the impact that they have if they work by themselves or even in an organization.…

Create Change Esther Dyson once said, “Change Means That What Was Before Wasn’t Perfect People Want Things To Be Better”. Even if one person creates changes in his or her society at a global, national, or community level in a positive way, will make this world a better place. Each individual can create changes in his or her society, unless he/she feels that it is important to society, that an action must be needed and the action that they going to propose in order for changes to happen. The changes that I want it to happen are; to have free schooling for students from kindergarten to twelve grade all over the world, along with women’s right to an education, offer free health care and helping homeless…

Be the change you wish to see in the world; Mahatma Gandhi's words of wisdom still ring true to me in my everyday life. His words invoke me to look within myself and evaluate how my good deeds can somehow be powerful enough to change the world. Volunteering at Buckner Shoes for Orphan Souls kindled a fire within me and made me realize that I will not tolerate being a bystander in the world; I must be proactive in order to see results. This center allowed me to see how simply packing, sorting, and shining shoes can help a young child's get to school easier, allow a young soccer play to sign up for their local team, or protect a child from walking on harsh terrain while trying to collect water. The reason why I volunteer is because I wish for the child's troubles to be nonexistent, I want to live in a world where people don’t have to worry about having a function pair of shoes.…

“Stop Trying to Save the World” The article “Stop Trying to Save the World” is about social projects, the called NGOs, which have the objective to help poor people to get better conditions to live. The author Michael Hobbs, who has experience in the subject, shows how these projects are not well thought and most of times do not work in the way they are supposed to, because there is a lack of vision, and how they end up hampering the international development. According to him, he wants to undo the concept of the “Big Idea”, which is “once we identify the correct one, we can simply unfurl it on the entire developing world like a picnic blanket” (Hobbs). That is, most of times the projects are applied in a whole based just in a result of one…
