Analysis Of Starry Night

To Create or to Not Create When I look back at the different periods of art, there are some that I admire. In those periods, I find artwork that is astonishing both in size and in artistic ability. I believe that I could have created Starry Night, by Vincent Van Gogh in 1889, because it is a piece that I enjoy to look at. I feel as though it speaks to me, and portrays somethings that I feel. However, I could never have created the sculpture St. Mark, by Donatello in 1413, because it was so intricate and large. It would have taken great skill in many areas to create a work of art as extravagant. Starry Night is a master piece. It uses mostly dark colors. Of the colors used it includes different hues of blue, yellow, and green. These colors …show more content…
In this period, art changed from a window to see the world into a window to see the mind and soul of the artist who created it. The art work embodied symbolism and personal meaning. The artist’s started to create works of art that meant something to them. This period started geometric painting which lead to cubism, and later non-geometric art which lead to more abstract works of art. Starry Night can definitely be seen as a work of art from the Post-Impressionism period because it is abstract. It has figures that can be seen as houses, but sky and the black figure create a more abstract painting. Although I feel like I could have created Starry Night, I could never have created the sculpture St. Mark. St Mark is a very large sculpture done by Donatello. It is about seven feet and nine inches tall. It was a very intricate sculpture of a man. It looks as though they took a man and dipped him in plaster, it is very realistic. The man has a beard, and the way his robes are draped over his body makes them look real. This man is holding a folder of some type with the left hand, while the right hand is at his side. He is standing with all of the weight on his right

The sculpture is painted in black, and it is created by using many different geometric shapes for example rectangles, squares and triangles as well as the use of different types of lines such as horizontal, vertical and wavy lines. Looking at this art work directly gives an illusion as if the object is 2d as well as offering a smooth texture due to the paint applied on the objects and evenly distributed spacing between the objects. The emphasis in artwork is located in the left side of the sculpture by using more objects compared to the right side of the sculpture. The sculpture is well balanced with exterior cubic…

He puts emphasis on the colors of the stars, just so that the viewers can get a glimpse as to what Van Gogh saw almost every night looking out the window. One of the things that Van Gogh was known for was his use of colors. Because he was such an emotional and expressive person, he would always use colors to express how he felt. In the background of Starry Night, you can see a church and there are people out there who believe that Van Gogh included the church intentionally, because he wanted to show the viewers of his struggles with religion.…

The sculpture in Unknown #4 depicts the upper body of a middle-aged man. That the figure shows the imperfections which come with age suggests that the sculpture is of Roman origin rather than Greek. Carved from marble, the sculpture extends to the lower chest of the man, just above the solar plexus. The chest and shoulders are soft and lightly defined: the pectoral muscles are visible only as gentle contours, and the shoulders slope downwards in fleshy smoothness. The head of the figure is carved with intricate detail, especially in the hair, beard, eyes, nose, and facial wrinkles.…

“Modern museum visitors can admire these objects from the remote past…without any knowledge of the circustances leading to the creation of those works” (Kleiner 1). Art History is a subject many set in the same category as Art Appreciation; however, the difference is clear since the history study takes into account the context of the work. If one analyzsis two paintings, each from a different era, he or she can deduce both similarities and differences between them. The two works I am going to compare are Venus of Willendorf crafted sometime between 28,000-25,000 BCE. and Josef Schusser’s May Evening painted in 1897.…

In this essay, I’m going to examine precession, its effects on the night sky, and other questions pertaining to this subject. First off, technically speaking precession is the slow change in the direction of the pole of a spinning body (Earth and its axis). Pretty much what this means is that the Earth wobbles as it spins about its axis and the axis changes directions slowly. This precession of Earth is caused due to the combination of both the gravitational pulls of the Sun and the Moon. Because the Earth is not a perfect ball and is fatter in the middle toward the equator the gravity of the sun and the moon pull on this fatter part of the Earth and cause the Earth to wobble.…

Post impressionism was an era of art that took place after impressionism. Post impressionism began in the early 1880s as a response to the previous era of art, known as impressionism. The post impressionism movement was caused by young artists and critics who wanted art pieces to have more focus on the subject matter of the piece, resulting in many artists placing more emphasis on the subject. Various art styles were created in this era, such as pointillism, a technique involving the use of dots that, when viewed from of a distance, appear as a painting piece. The movement began in France before spreading all across the world.…

The sculpture shows a cloaked male who appears to be holding a calf over his shoulders. The way the man and the animal are composed together (crossed legs and arms) shows an almost tender bond to the animal which is ironic considering the man is probably sacrificing the animal. Shanghai’d “The gift for Dwight that might be right is a bright Dwight Bird-flight Night Sight Light.” Tears streamed down my face and snot dripped out of my nose in typical eight year old fashion. I assumed Dr. Seuss put this line in his book specifically to torture kids who couldn’t read very well. Each time I read the line, a mangled chain of words that were close, but not entirely correct, came from my mouth. Each time I tripped over my words, a silence fell - quickly broken by the hollers of my Dad.…
