One general characteristic from young adult fiction that is shared from my individual novel is that the narrator speaking from a first-person perspective and the narrator is a teenager. In Stargirl the narrator is Leo Borlock who is only a junior at Mica High School. He is the narrator for the duration of the book and like many other young adult fiction books her gives his own insight to situations. For example, after Leo has his first dialogue encounter with Kevin the starting passage is quoted narrating “That was the first thing Kevin said to me on the first day of school, eleventh grade. We were waiting for the bell to ring.” (Spinelli 2). This is a clear statement leading to the idea that the protagonist, Leo is narrating the novel.
