A bildungsroman can be described as a life changing adventure. Tristan embarked on such adventure in order to gain the love of a girl, but this adventure becomes life changing in the fact that it truly transformed Tristan’s life. What started out as a simple fetch quest to appease some harlot, translated into Tristan becoming a gentleman and falling in love. Tristan became a changed man by the halfway point of the quest. He acquired a contemporary image and fell in love, but he still did not truly get the girl. Eventually she would be taken from him and he would appear to vanquish the witches. During the time he discovered the identity of his mother, and the last prince died. Tristan became an heir to the throne, and became king. Tristan life changed because of this journey, and without the journey he never would have found true love, or learned any important manly skills. Why does the journey seem so important? The journey that Tristan embarked on truly changed his life, and because of the journey Tristan met the people that could help create change in his life. The journey remains the most important reason because without it, Tristan would never learn manly skills or fall in love with Yvaine. Consequently, the journey forced him to grow, and later he became a true man during the course of the journey and he became the king of Stomhold. Why does Tristan and his story matter? The story matters because we as human beings identify as Tristan at some point in our lives. We all fall in love with our own stars. We all seek some form of adventure in our lives whether or not it can be identified as a high impact adventure or not. We all meet our own Captain Shakespeares, and acquire knowledge in order to assist us in growing. Accordingly, we all come of age. The movie Stardust identifies itself as a coming of age movie, and the movie makes itself relatable because we all come of age and mature as we grow older. Stardust teaches tolerance. Captain Shakespeare acted more feminine as a man, but he still gained the respect and admiration of his crew. Stardust taught us that true love conquers all, and showed us how unconditional love can be. Therefore, Stardust carries a message in every frame of the movie for each and every viewer. Most importantly, like Tristan we grew up a little more as people upon its heart-wrenching
