In this lab, we did four kind of different test, to mimic the chemistry of digestion. The first one was to test for sugar. We used a dropper and measured 2 ml of maltose and 2 ml of benedict’s solution in a pyrex test tube. After, using a test tube holder, we placed the test tube in a boiling water bath and heated for 5 min. After the 5 min, using a test tube holder we removed the test tube from the water bath. We then repeated the same procedure using starch solution instead of maltose. When we did the test for digestion of starch. First, using separate medicine droppers, I transferred 3 ml of starch solution to a small beaker, then added a fresh enzyme solution consisting of a pinch of amylase in a 3ml of water and mixed thoroughly with a glass rod. Later when the tubes were adapted to their respective temperatures, I used the dropper to add 5 ml of pancreatin to each tube and using the test tube holder I put back the tube in the warm water and the other tube in the ice water and waited 30 min for the results. Finally, we did the digestion of protein. For this experiment we prepared and number the following test tubes. For this test, the quantity of each solution was measure carefully. For tube one was 5 ml of 0.5 % pepsin and 5 ml of 0.8% HCI. For tube two was 5 ml of pepsin and 5 ml of water. For tube three 5 ml of pepsin, boiled for 10 min in water bath and 5 ml of 0.8% HCI. For tube four, 5 ml of pepsin and ml of 0.5 % NaOH. For tube five 5 ml of water and 5ml of 0.8% HCI. First in this experiment we have to determine the approximate pH of each test tube using Hydroin paper. After that we placed a small amount of fibrin (the protein) in each test tube. The amount we put in was near the size of a pea, and using the tube holder we put the tubes in a 40 C temperature closely, and leaft the tubes in the water bath for at least 1 ½
