Starbucks Urban Observation Paper

Improved Essays
I did my urban observation on a Starbucks located at Fort Worth, Texas downtown. The neighborhood around looks calm but busy. I observed that people arrived there either walking or driving although it was a rainy and quite cold of a day. People had the choice to sit inside or outside the place, and only one couple chose to sit outside, and drink their hot coffee. This place is combination of business and leisure since the owner of the place is making business with the visitors, and it’s a leisure for those who come and visit the place.
The architecture set up of Starbucks is little different from the ones I have visited or seen before. This one is bigger, I assumed a maximum capacity of 30 people. It has soft wood floor, walls and tables.

Base on my observation this place was being used for what it was made for. I saw two girls probably in college working on homework on the bar table, I thought they were together, but for my surprise I was wrong. One of them put her stuff away, and walk out without saying anything to the girl beside her. So, conclude that they didn’t know each other even though they were sitting by each other. Which is weird to me because there were three empty chairs, and normally a lot of people sit away from someone else when space is available but they didn’t. Some people came in bought a drink, sit down, and relax. I predict that people come and relax to this place because of the environment, and also the good beverages. On the contrary, others were there talking with their friends or family having a loud and fun afternoon which made me think they probably haven’t seen each other lately, and they needed to catch up. I saw an adult giving tutoring to a teenager which it was weird to see because I never saw that in the other Starbucks I been. I also saw a couple sitting and having a conversation with and old couple, and base on the body language of the young lady towards the old couple I predict they could probably her parents or grandparents. I enjoyed observing them because they looked like they were having a great family time. I also observed another group that looked like they

Shopping experiences can be exciting and eventful or a miserable loss of a day due to poor layout, rude customer service, and other troubles. Families in particular are a hard crowd to please with store’s amenities and products. However, families with children between ages 2-12 are responsible for a high amount of profit that can be brought back to the store. The amount of people spending money in a store multiplies when a family goes on a shopping expedition. Families create an opportunity to obtain an alternative type of profit compared to single men or women.…

The decor of the microbrewery is fantastic! It has pipes, valves, fans, pulleys and gears all over the restaurant to add to the junkyard look. I really loved the lighting of the place, the miniature cars and vans around the restaurant, and the vintage Harley Davidson bikes that were on display; it really added to the party and cozy atmosphere. I’d even recommend you to check out the toilets to see the designs of the bains and taps. They were so well decorated!…

The observation that I participated in was at the Starbucks Coffee in the Wanek Center. The lighting is dark, especially where everyone is doing homework right outside the Starbucks area. The lighting is the brightest at the back wall where the people are making the Starbucks drinks. The sound is quiet outside the Starbucks area, but loud where people are getting their drinks. The energy is a mixture of people laughing, while having a good time with friends and others look focus while doing homework.…

Starbucks has one simple mission, which is “To inspire and nurture the human spirit – one person, one cup and one neighborhood at a time.” It is this mission statement which has contributed to the development of the brand over the past four decades, as it is found in Starbucks more than just a coffee shop. It is not just an “escape” for anyone who needs a break from their day-to-day work but also becomes a place for friends to hang out and even a venue for businessman to meet. We want to provide people - regardless of their age, occupation, or location - a unique experience: a coffee shop as a place to relax, work and make friends.…
