Starbucks Child Development

Although Josh learned to walk 4 months earlier than Jon does not mean Jon is behind in his development. According to the chart in chapter 5, 11.5 months is when toddlers are able to stand on their own and 12.3 months is when toddlers are able to walk efficiently. However, it also states that the timing can vary. With this is mind, Josh was on the earlier side and Jon was on the later side. This does not mean that Jon has a disability, it just means he develops later than his brother. The cause of this might be the difference in the environment they each grew up in. A difference in environment could be the parents might have been more protective around Jon than Josh, Jon might have grown up in a different neighborhood or different financial situation. I believe that we should not compare one child’s development to another because all kids develop in different ways. I also believe that everyone has their strengths and their weaknesses. If you judge a child on their weaknesses you might be unable to discover their strengths. …show more content…
