Music has the ability to change a life, and growing up my father exposed me to all sorts of albums as we blasted them in our garage till late in the night. This period of my life showed me how to appreciate any song or album i had landed upon, and to bask in how well an artist could make all these sounds come together in one piece, even if the music wasn't what i was used to. When i took some time to listen to The fourth and newest album, “Starboy.” Immediately after I finished the album I instinctively wanted to grab my friends and chill out in my garage as this album played in the background. With new albums like Frank Ocean’s Blonde, Solange’s A Seat at the Table, and Alicia Keys’ Here being released, The Weeknd, or Abel Tesfaye was going to have to up the ante on his latest album to come out on top among these R&B stars. …show more content…
That being said, it’s always been hard to label The Weeknd as one genre such as R&B, especially with the new sound produced from this album, he's transformed into one of those artists who transcends any genre, creating a mix of sounds that almost anybody can enjoy, especially with the mix of people he has featured on the album, such as Lana Del Rey and Kendrick Lamar. Songs like “Starboy”, “Secrets”, and “Rockin'” are an instant mood booster, while “Sidewalks”, “Love to Lay”, and “Ordinary Life” make you want to go on a long drive in silence with somebody you love as these

Unorthodox Jukebox is an album composed by Bruno Mars in 2012 that is unique in its own way by having multiple genres instead of one. For example, “Locked out of Heaven,” the hit single in this album is a mix of reggae and funk, also it carries many 80s influences especially from the ‘Oh, Yeah, Yeah!’ that are throughout the song, whereas the song “Moonshine” is considered an R&B song with a lot of 80s influences throughout the whole song. Apart from having reggae and R&B, Mars also had included pop, rock, blues, etc. into his album.…

Music and society have a large impact on each other, and how they shape the way people view and act in the world. There are four themes that identify and characterize how music has evolved over the past one hundred years. These themes also show how music affects and expresses the culture that not only we live in today, but also how we have changed in our views on numerous aspects of today’s society. The four themes that are explored directly with a specific artist and, or, band are how they impact society, politics, and several cultural issues that have stood the test of time and the way race, class, and gender are expressed in music. The development of the music industry and the technology used in it are widely affected by the change in music over decades, but also by outstanding individuals during their careers, which span over a variable amount of time.…

Commonly once artists sign with a record label they begin to make music and fame comes along with the process that changes them from who they previously were. That didn’t apply to the Weeknd and Drake to this very day the humbleness showed makes them appealing. In the Weeknd’s music he doesn’t gloat and paint a vivid image of the millions he has, instead he connects with us on the level where he elaborates the tragedies in his past lifestyle. Drake in his prime years focused on being the best that he can offer the rap industry, once he noticed people put him on a pedestal he still remained constant. The Weeknd and Drake are diverse from other artists they show pure thanks to have made it how far they’ve come.…

It is evident that music industry and its trends has transformed throughout the ages. From the emergence of rock n’ roll in the 1950s, to the rise of disco in the 1970s, and the popularity of R&B and hip-hop in the 21st century. Although different musical movements defined different decades, the one thing that transcended through the metamorphosis of music was the topics and subjects behind the lyrics. Whether that be sex, race, love, money, or work, all artists have been singing and writing about the same themes since music itself was created. One of the most prominent and controversial issues addressed was politics and race sung through protest songs.…

Sometimes, the music industry can be very tricky and very playful, relative to the highs and lows of fame that an artist can harness from the course of his or her career. We have seen one-hit wonders succumbed to the concept of oblivion and there are the fortunate ones who still managed to survive with their incessant names being on the hot stuff list. When an act died out of exhaustion or an artist’s spotlight dimmed, we thought that they may never come back, leaving us forlorn and dismayed by how their career went. We sometimes backtrack their songs, listening to how great they have been and we are then being contented to just replaying their musical geniuses over albums bought when they were famous. This concept might be a reality to the avid fans of A Tribe Called Quest, and the thirst for the hip-hop group is about to be vanquished by their latest comeback album.…

A trend with The Weeknd’s work seems that with every project of his the tone is set by its introductory song. His cover of Michael Jackson’s ‘Dirty Diana’ capitalized on the ominous sound throughout Echoes of Silence while the mundaneness of ‘Real Life’ was carried throughout his Grammy nominated Beauty Behind the Madness. Disappointingly, that's not the case with his newest album, Starboy. The album kicks off with the Daft Punk produced 'Starboy', a marvelous ode to his luxurious lifestyle, which is one of my favorite songs that's released throughout the year.…

Comparing artists and their music has gone on since music first began. Each person thinks their favorite artist’s album is the best, while the other argues that his is the best. Just like any other entertainment category, it is very hard to convince the other person that you are right, even though the evidence is shouting out at them. Which is better? Two popular artists on each end of the spectrum of popularity with one artist’s album being on the Billboard 200 chart at number 1 and the other artist’s album at number 13; an artist with over a decade of experience, or a new artist on his second album?…

OutKast, a popular rap group throughout the nineties and early 2000s, has a renowned song entitled “Hey Ya!” which features the smooth flows of Andre 3000 and hard hitting rhymes of Big Boi. The song has been a huge hit for years and is virtually known by every American under the age of thirty. When the song was released in 2003, I was just three years old, but had already adopted my dad’s love for music and I frequented the kitchen tile as my dance floor whenever music was playing. OutKast’s song “Hey Ya!” holds a different weight than most other songs I grew up around because it is one of few memories I remember vividly about my childhood.…
