Enslaved or Empowered Star Wars: The Return of the Jedi (1983) is part of an iconic franchise and includes the infamous slave Leia. When Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher) is captured by Jabba the Hutt she is forced to wear a metal bikini while chained to Jabba himself. Earlier this year Disney was rumored to be taking the slave Leia merchandise off store shelves. This could be due to the sexually revealing nature of the outfit which contradicts Disney’s more family friendly orientation. However, many fans cried out in outrage and especially female fans claim that they look up to this image of a strong woman that could still be seen as attractive. George Lucas originally created the outfit due to complaints by Carrie Fisher about not having very many …show more content…
Celebrities including Jennifer Aniston and Kristen Bell and even plenty of men put on the outfit for conventions. As a bikini, the outfit sounds perfect for the beach but to wear in a convention with hundreds of people is a different story. Princess Sandy comments “Slave Leia is not for the faint of heart, meaning, be ready to walk around mostly naked” which is asking women and some men to be open with their bodies. Different people cosplay for different reasons some like MdmeLibrarian “I love the attention,” and some people like Kierat say “I had fantasies about being able to dress up as my favourite characters” and even people like Nynes do it “Because I like the technical challenge of bringing beautiful artwork off the page/screen to the real world.” Slave Leia cosplayers do it for their own reasons but still make it to the same goal of being proud of themselves. Cosplayers are routinely wearing the bikini to all kinds of conventions and even blending it with other themes. It is similar to a film reaching the baroque stage of evolution as it is parodied and

This article is similar to the article “The Fashion Industry: Free to Be an Individual” by Hannah Berry, because both articles speak on how women need to embrace their individuality and reach deep inside of themselves and allow that to show in every aspect of their lives. Each and every woman is free to be exactly who she wants to be, no matter what anyone else thinks. For example, in the comedy, 30 Rock, Liz Lemon “wore Duane Reade bags for underwear” (Nussbaum 57) and decided to be a cheerleader and shake her butt as an older lady. This showed she didn’t care what others thought and was comfortable just being herself. NEED STUFF…

My AP Literature teacher, Mr. Mercer, once asked my class a serious question: why do women apologize so much? A thoughtful pause followed while the class, females especially, pondered the answer. My teacher elaborated with a short anecdote about a female student from a previous class: Mr. Mercer was standing in front of the doorway before class, speaking with another student. The female student approached the doorway so Mr. Mercer and the student courteously moved out of the way. The female student nodded and uttered a quick “sorry” as she hustled past them.…

Specifically, the difficulty in achieving agreement with diversity as a factor, the phases of determining leadership, the benefit of the group having a variety of knowledge, and the effect of nonverbal communication shown through the character Groot. Swimwear has changed throughout history based on societal norms, views on modesty, and sexuality, as well as technology. In recent years, swimwear has taken on a more practical form to promote less weight in the water, ease of agility, and comfort. However it was not always so, in the late 18th century, swimwear served the purpose of ensuring modesty which came at the expense of mobility. Both Lolita and cosplay are closely inked subcultures due to its cultural beginnings and link to youth fandom heritage, so it is no real surprise that youth passing through or experimenting with these subcultures before later deciding which on suited them best has been a common reoccurring theme found during the research. The same parallel can even be seen within some of the Taqwacore interviewees such as one who had talked about time they had spent being involved in the heavy metal scene as well as the punk scene before discovering Taqwacore and choosing to remain there, a similar story was told but with death metal and thrasher music until the interviewee later settled into Taqwacore. However in terms of fashion and imagined self for over half those interviewed fashion and the look of the style was intergyral to the experience of being a ‘proper’ Lolita. Throughout the interviewees conducted it appeared as though modesty and authenticity of ones coordinate was essential to being considered a real Lolita. Wearing a dress to short, adding the wrong types of accessories or clashing colours were big mistakes that took away from a person’s authenticity as a Lolita that put one at risk to…

my personal favorite story is the story of Star Wars, but not just the movie, the story of how a ragtag team of film makers made an amazing classic still alive today. The story of star wars begins in the California home of George Lucas where he began to capture the romance and adventure that he saw in old movies that he watched as a young boy as well as the heroics of the great Flash Gordon TV series. so george began to write the script for a screenplay that would one day be known as "Star Wars" Before George along with a crew of over 100 men and women could begin this interstellar epic they would need people to play the roles of the characters. The young hero, Luke Skywalker was played by Mark Hamil, a newbie to show business. the mentor and guide of the hero is the old and wise member of a long forgotten order of knights know as the Jedi, his name is Obi-Wan Kenobi played by Sir Alec Guiness.…

The history of cosplay subculture is fairly recent and has a surprising origin as most of the population connects cosplay with Japanese animation, or anime. Cosplay originated in the United State at World Con in 1939 with a man named Forrest J. Ackerman. This is the first recorded instance of cosplay though the term cosplay would not be used for many years (Mikolaski). Forrest’s cosplay was a science fiction piece created by himself to share the passion he had for the convention that was geared towards futuristic goals.…

Cosplay is a term adapted from the combination of “costume” and “play” where people essentially dress up as his or her favorite character from any two-dimensional realm (video games, animations, comics, and TV shows). In the article "Cosplay": Imaginative Self and Performing Identity, written by Osmud Rahman, he described this culture as “ a theatrical performance with high-involvement consumption.” Being apart of this community, I can bring a persona to life, which requires physical work such as sewing, wig styling, makeup, and essentially role-playing the character. Cosplayers then attend conventions, like the New York Comic con, as a chance to display their masterpiece and engage with other artists. To have a virtual avatar is not limited to what is displayed on the screen; rather, there are other sub-cultures that explores an even more creative exploration of the fantasy…
