While they are in Watto's shop Anakin is watching Jar Jar and Jar Jar sticks his tongue out at Qui Gon after he was told not to touch things. This teaches him to disrespect authority at an early age. Anakin also takes a liking to Padmé and asked her if she is an angel meaning he finds her attractive. Jar Jar encourages his behavior by telling Anakin she was "hot". He is being taught to think whatever he wants and both are against the Jedi code. Anakin enters a pod race called the Boonta Eve Classic to help his new found friends to get money for parts to repair the hyperdrive of their starship. And Qui-Gon makes a bet with Watto that if Ani wins the pod race he is freed from slavery along with his mother. Watto refuses to set them both free but agrees to roll a dice to see which one will go, the dice has 2 colors blue and red, blue for Ani and red for his mother. Watto rolls the dice and with a little help from Qui-Gon using the force the dice lands on blue allowing Ani to be free if he wins. He wins the race and reluctantly leaves his mother behind to become a Jedi. He is afraid to leave home but his mother knows this is best for him.
