Star Wars Technology

It’s safe to say my parents are sick of watching Star Wars Episode II: The Clone Wars. Our family tradition of Saturday movie night is led by my brother and I, each choosing the designated movie every other week, usually that one. We would play the film on a computer while eating ice cream kept cold by the freezer in our house and previously Safeway. Two hours later, my brother and I would trudge off to bed and turn on the AC in the summer or the heater in the winter. Everything that I did, touched, and saw was linked to technology, especially growing up in the 2000’s when the digital age was picking up. As an eight year old I didn’t ponder how software and hardware meshed together to play my movie. My mind was out in a galaxy far far away, in a world of Jedi, rebels, corrupt politicians, and the Force. I looked around me and questioned how these tangible things and even my life be governed by computer science. How can lines of code, zero’s and one’s, control technology? How does the code combine with the hardware? What more can technology and software engineering touch that will eventually affect us in our lives? Can coding be considered an official language? Even if coding can not be, I believe that it is the language of the now and the future. While being forced to choose a profession at 17 years old, computer science is the golden pathway. Technology is in every aspect of our lives, so I could go anywhere with it from creating mobile applications to helping build a NASA shuttle to working behind the scenes in movies, maybe even incorporating it with my own interests. I don’t know exactly where computer science will take me, but it will open doors and invite me to tomorrowland where coding governs
