Star Wars Film Analysis

We can again see this in Star Wars games like Jedi Knight and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic where the player starts off as a normal person and slowly rises in fame and importance till they are the center of the galaxy's attention. This occurs similarly to the films, as in the films Luke Skywalker turns out to be Darth Vader/Anakin's son, in games like Knights of the Old Republic, the player character turns out to be a famous Sith lord thought dead and lost. (Schellenberg) While again this is an ancient trope, it is important to see how Star Wars built off of itself in its games, these licensed and Lucasfilm games not simply functioning as quick cash grabs, but instead thoughtful well-built games that took from their source material …show more content…
One of the key elements of the Star Wars universe is the balance between the light side and the dark side of the force, and games like Jedi Knight and Knights of the Old Republic utilize this element in the player character's alignment, where doing qualified 'good' things get the player light side points, and qualified 'evil' things deliver dark side points. (Parker 157) This discontinuation of linearity, the accomplishments and long term effects of a player summed up into a number that changes how other characters react and more importantly the over-arching storyline in such a way that the game and the story telling is truly dynamic to the character and to the universe that it explores is core to the idea of many Star Wars games, but other Sci-Fi games as well. Most notably, the Mass Effect trilogy, Fallout: New Vegas, Infamous, and many games even outside Sci-Fi such as Dragon Age and Mount & Blade all contain in some form this aspect of game design. This is just one of many elements that the Star Wars films initially helped set up through their storytelling of the galaxy and its inhabitants that game designers took notice of and pulled for their …show more content…
We can even go on to say that this tendency is significantly higher than the likelihood that games borrow from television series. This is primarily because of the difference in the mediums themselves. Movies are long-form, as compared to short-form episodic seasons of content like most television. This is important because the long-form has several advantages over the short-form, mostly in story-telling but more importantly in development of characters, setting and universe. While a television show may have a single pilot to set up the world and basic characters, then a season to further develop these elements while simultaneously telling short twenty to thirty minute side stories, a film will have a full twenty to forty minutes dedicated to exposition and set-up of the universe and the characters, before having the rest of the film for character development and further universe

Hunger Games, Star Wars, and Ender’s Game have both similarities and differences in their approach to ‘Call to Adventure’, ‘Refusal’, and ‘Crossing the Threshold’ in the Hero’s Journey. Their ‘Call to Adventure’ all consist of one person coming and either asking something of the hero or heroine or the hero or heroine offers to do something for the person who showed up. For Hunger Games, Katniss offers to enter the Hunger Games instead of Prim. In Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi asks Luke Skywalker if he wants to come with him to defeat the Dark Side.…

Then there is this Force that characters in Star Wars are always talking about? Do you know someone actually counted how many times the Force is referred to in the films – 92 times, in case you get asked that question on Jeopardy. Though the Force is clearly central to the action of the Star Wars films, it ultimately remains mysterious. Video games are arguably even less associated with storytelling than comics are, with some critics believing “that the video-game form is incompatible with traditional concepts of narrative” (Bissel, 93). Where the medium truly excels, however, is with its capacity for immersion. Like how the addition of sound allowed filmgoers to not just watch the action but hear it, “Every new medium that has been invented … has increased the transporting power of narrative” (Rose, 36). Where readers of books and viewers of movies are passive, gamers take an active role in their narratives. In games like Mass Effect this means making key decisions that affect the development of the plot, but in games like Naughty Dog’s Uncharted and The Last of Us, this…

I can say Cool Hand Luke the movie was okay at certain points throughout the movie and that I notice that some parts where just bland that I got confused at some points of the movie. The way it started off was from the guy name Luke who was drunk in public cutting/screwing off parking meters that belong to the city government which I know you can get serious jail time for destruction of government property from road signs to anything that belongs to the government. When they took him in for custody, the jail he went to wasn’t an ordinary jail to me it look like one of those jails that be on a farm that makes you do labor around its surroundings, which I notice that they had to cut weeds on the side of the road for miles each day.…

The scene chosen for this analysis is from the third movie where, Padme giving birth to Luke and Leia, and at the same time, Anakin is being operated on and transformed into Darth Vader. It is a scene that parallels life and death both visually and sonically. The “film music engages its listeners in important processes of producing and reproducing, meanings and ideologies. ”(Kassabian, 2001, p.7) This is important in Star Wars for the audience to produce and reinforce, the understanding of who is a part of the ‘dark side’, and who is a part of the ‘light side’; through music connecting certain musical themes with certain characters or events, the audience is given another nuance to their understanding of the film.…

my personal favorite story is the story of Star Wars, but not just the movie, the story of how a ragtag team of film makers made an amazing classic still alive today. The story of star wars begins in the California home of George Lucas where he began to capture the romance and adventure that he saw in old movies that he watched as a young boy as well as the heroics of the great Flash Gordon TV series. so george began to write the script for a screenplay that would one day be known as "Star Wars" Before George along with a crew of over 100 men and women could begin this interstellar epic they would need people to play the roles of the characters. The young hero, Luke Skywalker was played by Mark Hamil, a newbie to show business. the mentor and guide of the hero is the old and wise member of a long forgotten order of knights know as the Jedi, his name is Obi-Wan Kenobi played by Sir Alec Guiness.…

The ascension of both anime and video games into popular culture originated first in Japan, and eventually their influence spread across the globe.
