Cask Wars: A Comparison

What are the effects of a feeling of betrayal? Usually it leads to a feeling of disappointment or hatred towards the betrayer. Two examples of the idea of betrayal and its effects are “The Cask of Amontillado” by Edgar Allan Poe and Star Wars: Episode III by George Lucas. In “The Cask of Amontillado,” Montresor feels betrayed by another man, Fortunato, and leads him into the catacombs of his house, ultimately leaving him to die. In Star Wars: Episode III Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi are united to fight the evil Sith and defend the Republic. Later, Anakin joins the Sith and betrays Obi-Wan which leads to rash actions and later the downfall of Anakin. These stories both illustrate that betrayal is a feeling that

In “The Cask of Amontillado,” Montresor continues living in peace for an extended period of time. This is known from a quote at the end of the story: “For the half of a century no mortal has disturbed them. In pace requiescat!” (Poe 214). Now that he got back at him, he feels that they are even. This is evident when he says in pace requiescat, which means may he rest in peace in Latin. He still feels that what he has done is justified, and continues living on his life in peace for several years. This story also demonstrates that betraying someone only leads to the downfall of the betrayer. Similarly, in Star Wars: Episode III Obi-Wan leaves Anakin for dead, and he does not feel guilty for it, as he feels that Anakin deserved the outcome that transpired. Overall, he still feels for him, and trains Anakin’s son with the forces of the Jedi when he comes of age. He feels obligated to do this after trying to help Anakin become a Jedi and ultimately failing. Obi-Wan survives the lightsaber battle and continues his life, living on another planet (Star Wars: Episode III). In conclusion, the overall outcome is the same between the two stories with this outcome being the downfall of the betrayer and the success of the person who was betrayed. This is significant in our world today because often people feel betrayed and want to …show more content…

In retrospect, I have never not known a time in my life where Star Wars hasn’t existed for me. Star Wars, released in 1977, was a low-budget science fiction film that was sort of a pet project from its creator, George Lucas. Unbeknownst to Lucas, the film became a commercial success and a cultural phenomenon. Having been born in 1997, I wasn’t alive at the time where Star Wars had been released. I had never experienced first-hand the infamous twist that Darth Vader was actually Luke Skywalker’s, the protagonist of the original Star Wars trilogy, father in cinemas at the time of Empire Strikes Back’s release.…

How does betrayal affect people and their actions? Macbeth by William Shakespeare and The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini show how betrayal can make somebody think more carefully about what choices they decide to make and how they feel about events that happened in the past. Amir in The Kite Runner betrayed his friend by not telling anybody about something horrible that happened in an alleyway, and in Shakespeare’s play, Macbeth betrayed the king by killing him while he slept. Acts of betrayal from the past can make a person much more cautious of what they share with others, out of fear of judgement. In The Kite Runner, Amir did not tell his fiancée, Soraya, about what happened in alleyway when he was younger, “I envied her.…

Introduction and Quote Isaac Singer once said “When you betray somebody else, you also betray yourself.” Isaac’s theory on betrayal, shows that betrayal is linked to guilt. The built up feelings become overwhelming and you end up punishing yourself even more than you punished the victim.…

One of modern society’s favourite pastimes is watching and comparing films. Films have the ability to make us laugh, cry, or even think while touching our hearts no matter what the genre is. Contemporary media genres have dramatically changed since classical literary times, which divided theatrical and literature into groups of drama and comedy, giving birth to genres. For example, a Science Fiction (Sci-Fi) film is classified in that genre due to its situational context and fundamental plot, though, Sci-Fi films may also be categorised into genres such as horror (Aliens), comedy…
