I remember the gut wrenching feeling in my stomach as my best friend and I approached the tallest and fastest roller coaster at Hershey Park, called SkyRush. I am not sure why I agreed to go on this roller coaster, considering most of the time at amusement parks I entertain myself with food, and miniature rides that stay level to the ground. Unlike me, my friend liked the rush and heart dropping feeling of being at the apex of a roller coaster and then dropping down at maximum speed. Personally, I preferred the ground, where I remained in full control of my own safety. Yet that afternoon I found myself standing in line for SkyRush.…

Not everyone has the chance to ride the Kennedy space center simulator but my opportunity came today. No more videos, it’s going to be the actual ‘thing. We walked onto a ramp that brought us to a green screen where we obtain our picture taken, and after the ride they gave us a chance to buy the picture where they edited an orange astronaut suit on us. I continued to run up and around the twist of the ramp leaving my aunt and uncle behind me. The few people in line gathered at the top of the ramp, and the waiting time went by fast since no one wanted to stand in line.…

After riders are seated and ready for take off (outside), they launch out of ‘Earth’s Atmosphere’ , and start traveling through space. In order for the effect of taking off the Earth into space they go up a hill increasing their velocity, and lowering their air pressure. Riders will then fall down a hill dodging comets, when falling they will experience free fall and weightlessness. Once riders reach space they will travel through a large loop, experiencing centripetal force and centripetal acceleration as they travel through the loop. Forces are extremely important in a roller coaster, as they create the different sensations throughout the ride, and also help to hold you in your seat for safety. Forces on a roller coaster are measured in g's, which is how to measure gravity on the ride. The change of g's in different situations is what creates the different feelings and thrills you get on the coaster. When our marble is released at the top of the initial hill, energy is transferred from potential energy to kinetic energy. Potential energy is higher than kinetic energy at the top of the hill, because the ride is barely, or not moving at all, and all of the energy is yet to be released.…

I got soaked. We had to take our hands off the rail and we went swirling like a tornado and a spiral. At the end, there was a huge bump and we went down the smooth surface Finally, we crossed the bump, but at the very end of the ride, we went really high and touched the black rubber path at the very top of the ride. I finally thought that the ride was amazing to go on. My thoughts before were wrong.…

The anticipation on the line was killing me. I knew if this line would slowly drag me along any longer I would chicken out and regret not going on the ride. All I could watch was the bright green car speeding down the track faster than a gazelle being chased by a hawk. The bright yellow sun against the light blue sky was blinding me, making the car go out of view for a moment, then seeing it already at the top. The only thing that I could think of was the giant, green, vertical drop that I was about to confront.…

Cedar Point, the Roller Coaster Capital of the world, certainly lives up to its title. Scattered throughout the park are some of the most intense roller coasters you’ll ever hear of. I was fortunate enough to have experienced the phenomenon of riding atop the Top Thrill Dragster over summer vacation, which lasted only 20 seconds of real time, but will forever be embedded within my long-lasting memory. The fiery orange sun began to submerge below the line of the horizon, far out across the calm, murky waters of Lake Erie.…

I got anxious as I reached the top, until the worked yelled “pull the cord.” Those three words is all it took to relieve me of everything, all the stress, anxiety and anything else that had bothered me just seemed to go away as I was flying through the sky. Once the ride was over I looked was so glad that I hadn’t chickened out. It was such a great experience that was so much more than just riding a dumb ride at Six Flags. It showed me that whatever goal I set for myself in life, big or small, I would accomplish it.…

Hawaiian Punch full of Rum and something else. Boy, did I have one hell of a hangover the following day! Another guy walked into the barracks later that afternoon and asked if anyone wanted to rent motorbikes and drive over to Phoenix City, Alabama (which was considered to be the danger zone). Deciding to get out for a while, we went to the bus stop and took a ride to the bike rental shop in downtown Columbus, Georgia. Taking off over the bridge to Alabama to see what all the fuss was about, we ended up at the bars in ‘Combat Alley’ We checked them out just long enough to get an idea that the area was no big deal, before deciding to ride back to downtown Columbus, feeling a little better on the return trip.…

One who has ever been to an amusement park knows that this is no simple task. Finding the line tested my patience, it made me wonder if this one excursion was worth the nausea and the fear that this roller coaster would entail. I had heard of this hunk of metal, constructed to look like a racecar, and knew that it would certainly test my courage. The Dragster was recorded as 120 mph, the third fastest roller coaster in the world, and had the highest peak in the park.…
