Star, Stripes, and Stand
“Oh, say can you see by the dawn’s early bright. What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?”(Francis Scott Key) These lyrics are sung at almost every sporting event across the nation. Kids watch their favorite athletes respect the flag and sing along; however, some do not and then children wonder, “ why do they sit down?” Recently, many professional athletes have either been taking a knee, sitting down, or even raising fists because they believe that racism, discrimination, equality, and freedom are not being shown throughout the United States. Singing and representing their country, is how Americans show their pride to their roots and to not do so, is astonishing. For example, Carole Isham, the great, great, great granddaughter of Francis Scott Key, recently stated, "It just blows my mind that somebody like (Kaepernick) would do what he does to dishonor the flag of this country and the national anthem when we have young men and women overseas fighting for this country, people that have died for this country” (Refusing to Stand for the National Anthem). Above all, even if players think they have reasons why not to stand, there are kids, families, and adults all over the world watching them show. Soldiers put in everyday of their lives to fight for our country, and the least the players could do is stand up and show allegiance to the U.S. In addition, presenting faithfulness is one of the most important things to teach and present. It shows that citizens have pride and believe in their country, along with the people who come of it. Even President Donald Trump, got involved in the situation. His insight was expressed using the social media platform,
