Star Band Critique

Ringo Starr couldn't have looked more cool, quiet or gathered. Two hours before he ventured before more than 6,000 fans at the Greek Theater, the ex-Beatle, not exactly a week short of his 76th birthday, respected a guest into his changing area as he loose in a seat, dressed monochromatically in a smooth dark coat, thin dark pants, coordinating T-shirt and sneakers.

"The visit is incredible," he said of his most recent All-Starr Band, which wrapped a 21-show 2016 U.S. visit show with the sold-out homecoming show at the Greek.

The lineup highlights guitarist-vocalist lyricist Todd Rundgren, Toto guitarist-artist Steve Lukather, Santana keyboardist-artist Gregg Rolie, bassist Richard Page, saxophonist-percussionist Warren Ham and drummer

Of course, the All-Starr Band idea turns over liberal spotlight time to Starr's colleagues.

That permits Lukather to restore Toto hits "Rosanna," "Africa" and "Hold the Line." Rundgren, in the mean time, let free on his Beatles-esque "I Saw the Light" and in addition the musically obstinate "Slam against the Drum All Day." Page ventured forward on "Broken Wings" and "Kyrie," and Rolie unleashed the Latin rhythms of Santana's "Dark Magic Woman," "Detestable Ways" and "Oye Como Va."

The gathering conveys a high nature remainder, yet didn't generally exploit the aptitudes of rock's most praised drummer. It would light up, for example, to hear what Starr would convey to his band mates' hits with his particularly unfussy, rock strong musical backup, instead of fastidiously reproducing all the first drum parts by having kindred drummer Bissonette include such a large number of complex twists and

He spryly limited on and off stage, and close to the end of the show occupied with a flight of hopping jacks close to the determinations of "With a Little Help From My Friends."

The one clear affirmation of the progression of time accompanied a fast verse change in his execution of "I'm the Greatest," which, he told the group, "was composed for me... long prior, by John Lennon."

Where Lennon initially composed "Now I'm just 32, and all I need to do, is boogaloo," an announcement that was valid for both ex-Beatles when it was composed in 1972, Starr wryly sang "Now I'm route past 32...."

In spite of the fact that Saturday's execution conveyed his most recent show raced to an end, Starr said backstage, "I'm more than part of the way through another collection," with the same procedure he's utilized for his recordings as of late, utilizing a studio at his L.A. home and tapping artist buddies at whatever point they drop by to visit. As such, his songwriting accomplices incorporate Lukather, lyricist maker Glen Ballard, Dave Stewart and Van Dyke

Sidecar Open Band Jams on Tuesday nights at Shady Katie’s has led me to many musicians, far and near and exposed the collaborative world of open mics. After traveling up for a little over a year, the final night came and went out with bang. Familiar faces such as hosts Jake Falana and Josh Mayer, Rob Sankey, Maureen Martian, Smashing Saturn, Katie McCorry, Billy McHattie, Josh Maddux, Sean Christie, Tony Schott, Olivia Burton and Stan Lobby joined Shady’s final featured artists to show the stage love one last time. This would also be the first and last time I’d experience new artists at Shady’s, provided by Stay Gold.…

As the school year progresses, Thomas Jefferson's extra curricular programs continue to display their hard work for the students enjoyment. During the boys’ basketball game on January 4th, against Westminster High School, TJ’s drumline did just that, bringing the audience musical enjoyment in an unconventional way: by using buckets. After months of continuous practice, the drumline, led by band teacher Robin Johnson, was ready to perform a few songs as a halftime show. In preparation for events like this, “Students work on rudiments (rhythmic patterns), interpreting written music, as well as improvising and arranging their own music,” explained Johnson.…

After hearing some of the music, I felt a connection to what was popular back in 1930s because during those days is when the jazz and blues type of music was really about. My favorite musician would have had to been Ricky Lockhart because I’ve heard many drummers before from different songs, but after hearing what he could do I was shocked because I have never heard anything like that. Maybe that type of drum playing is typical in the blues field, but I had never heard of it and was surprised to hear the drums being played like that. Although the music was interesting and enjoyable, I’d unfortunately would not particularly want to go to another performance by this group just because there weren’t many interactions with the crowd and it’s just not my personal taste in music. But, I will give credits to everyone in Big Nick & the Gila Monsters because they put on a heck of a show and you could definitely tell people in the crowd enjoyed their music and performance they…

The concert of the music from Appalachia was unique. I enjoyed it a lot for it not only was musically pretty, but there was substance and meaning to the words. These songs were stories of the struggles and triumphs of the people. During the concert, I felt the emotion and the presence of the people and afterwards I felt a sense of gratefulness for all that I have. I imagine the people from Appalachia contributing to the beauty and culture of their community as any other people of a community add to the beauty of theirs.…

Who is Nirvana? Why are they important? In a society that demands conformity why did a group of high school dropouts draw the attention of the entire nation with this new form of musical expression that seemed to thrive on negative emotions and controversial ideas? These questions always seem to follow particularly rock musicians because of the topics and the visual impressions they use to express their views of the world. Their impact on the music industry has completely changed how some labels produce their artists, but how did this grunge movement start and why is nirvana the focus of it?…

The group of friends standing right in front of us jumped and sang every word of the songs being sung. We were only 30 seconds into the first song he sang, there was no one in the crowd in sight just standing there. Days before, I remember counting down for the day to approach. Waiting for that day filled with country music, sunshine, cowboy boots, and hats. It was the stereotypical perfect day, i've been waited for this the entire summer, ever since we heard of it on Wild Country 99.…

On May 26, 2016, the Jazz Ensemble at Cal State La decided to have a concert called Jazz combos. The meaning behind the name was the fact that there wasn't only one Jazz band performing but in fact four groups getting to show the students including outside people their talent. The jazz ensemble combos consisted of : Faith +1, Los Nombres, Alt+f4, Something Really Meta. Each group collectively performed three to four song, 14 all together. You would think that since all of these groups would sound the same since they are all doing the same genre, but the fact that each group had their own uniqueness is what made the concert intriguing.…

Intermixed amongst my musical review, I also interject my personal feelings and perceptions to what is occurring. Was it really true that we would perform in such a big event? We all looked at our instructor, and his face was enough to tell us that this was no joke. He further explained that three other drumline would be joining us, and that we would begin practice at Center Grove High School in the coming month. When the time came, my friends and I eagerly step foot into a new band room, and perhaps our greatest musical journey began. Counterculture is a set of values and norms different compared to the rest of society. This culture was first introduced in the United States and United Kingdom around the 1960s. During this time, the generation of adolescents dealt with homosexuality, the use of drugs, opposition to the Vietnam War, women rights, as well as African-American rights. Playwrights, James Rado and Gerome Ragni proposed a play called “Hair”, which is based on a group of hippie friends living during the revolution of the counterculture. The main character, Claude struggles to live the life of young teenager living in New York City with conservative parents.…
