The first athlete that comes to mind (for me), is Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James. When he left his hometown Cavaliers back in the off-season of 2010, James instantly became the most hated man in sports. The "decision," to leave his hometown for South Beach wasn't exactly the "fan favorite," decision, but in reality it gave him back-to-back championships in 2013 and 2014.

He is arrogant -- I won't disagree there, but just like James he has plenty of reason to be. They're going to go down as one of the best to ever play the game. He has five championships and still receives so much criticism. "He won three with arguably the best big man of all-time Shaquille O'Neal." Well, he also won two without him and with very little talent as well.
It occurs in every sport. Probably more so in the National Football League. We see it with Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning and of course the New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. Manning receives so much scrutiny because he has only won one Super Bowl. I'd be a fool not to admit he does have some playoff "gitters," but he will still go down as one of if not the best quarterback of all-time. He might retire leading in all quarterback categories.
We all know the Patriots have been caught cheating on numerous occasions now. Especially in the "Brady era," But in terms of what I see on the field, Brady is easily the best i've ever seen in crucial moments. He is the definition of clutch. It absolutely agitates me when people proclaim most of New England's success is due in large part to head coach Bill Belichick.
