For the final project I will compare two works of art from different medium and explain their common theme of beauty and compare it to a contemporary work that also shares the theme. The first work is a beautiful painting by Botticilli called “Birth of Venus” and the second is a poem by Poliziano called “Stanze per la Giostra” that describes the painting. They were both done in the Early Renaissance period in Italy. I will compare both works and show how each expresses the beauty of Venus (one in the form of a painting and the other with words from a poem). They will also be compared to a contemporary work of art to show how beauty is perceived today and if it has and/or has not changed throughout the centuries.
