Once a single lie starts, they just keep coming and coming, and then you face the consequences. Stanford Wong, Flunks Big Time, by Lisa Yee is a novel that takes place in Rancho Rosetta, California. Stanford flunked English and is being tutored by his arch enemy, Millicent Min. In the process, he is trying to impress Millicent’s best friend, Emily Ebers, without letting her find out that he is being tutored by Millicent. In the end of the story, Emily, Millicent, and Stanford learn that bravery and telling the truth always pays off in the end. Stanford wanted Emily to think that he was smart and was tutoring Millicent so she would like him, and it worked until she found Millicent’s certificates and trophies and hated him. However, Millicent made up with Emily and she forgave Stanford.

Millicent is my favorite character in the story. She really impressed me because although Stanford was very rude and ungrateful to her, she still tried to help him learn as much as possible. Even though Stanford didn’t listen to her and she felt anger and

Digger blackmailed Stanford by telling him that he wouldn’t tell the rest of the Roadrunners that Stanford failed English as long as every time they played basketball Stanford had to let him win. At first Stanford refused because he didn’t want the Roadrunners to think that he wasn’t good at basketball. However, if Stanford didn't do it then Digger would tell the Roadrunner that he failed English (p.187). One time the Roadrunners were playing H-O-R-S-E, Stanford won each time, and Digger got really mad. Then, Stanford said that he had to go eat lunch with his grandma. Digger said, “Don’t choke on your food,” and Stanford responded with “Thanks for your concern, it’s nice to know you care,” (p.248). In conclusion, Stanford learns that Digger isn’t the boss of him and that bravery pays off in the

The character Kidd makes me particularly admire was Lily. The traits she showed throughout the story showed how strong mentally and emotionally she is. Being a child and going through many hardships such as her mother dying and her father verbally abusing her shows the emotional toughness she has. “ I knew that the explosion I'd heard that day had killed her. The sound still sneaked into my head once in a while and surprised me.…

George Milton, a character from the book “Of Mice of Men” who in my opinion is a hero archetype. The hero archetype is a character who battles evil and helps the nature of good. He fits this archetype well because throughout the whole book he helps Lennie and kinda tries to lead him to the right path. He watches over Lennie and tries to keep him out of trouble. My favorite character from “Feathers from a Thousand Li Away” was An-mei Hsu. The main problem An-mei faces in the text is that she is subservient, and easily influenced, Her her naïveté hinders her from seeing the lies her family told, and realizing that her mother is not an evil bad woman. An-mei has good intentions when it came to listening authoritative figures in her life, that’s one of her admirable characteristics. However, she was influenced to be subordinate no matter what. She lived in fear in order not to become a wayward insubordinate girl like her mother, or the girl with the melon in her belly.…

Sports is a big aspect of high school life, especially the sport of football. The films The Blind Side, Remember the Titans, and Friday Night Lights, all revolve around the sport of football and how it manages to change the lives of the athletes. Among these films, the main themes I will focus on will be on the impact of being in a team and the influence an authority figure has on the athletes’ lives. I will begin with examining the theme of being a part of a sports team and how much growth it can have on an individual. At the beginning of the Blind Side, Michael Oher was extremely reserved and did not know how to play football.…
