Philip Zimbardo methods and intentions in preparing this experiment started out ethical but became un-ethical once he let the experiment run its course without his control or influence. This is why his experiment is widely revered to as an example of unethical research. But the purpose of Philip Zimbardo Stanford Experiment is just as important as it was back than as it is now.
I believe research as to what the effects of human behavior with power and those under imprisonment are important in understanding the human behavioral psyche. As human society evolves day in and day out. The building blocks all our greatest human accomplishments and our greatest human disasters start from the foundation of what makes one act or in act, what makes one individual choose a series of actions as supposed to another. As society grows and rules a politics become more and more powerful. It is important as a society for us to remember what makes humanity precious and how fragile our way of life is. Till this day and again 40 years after the Stanford experiment third world countries show proof of the primal devastation of what can occur to those who wield power and suppress others. If further research like the Stanford and experiment is not performed or looked into due to the code of ethical standard that governs it. Then the world as we know it will have no defense against a forgotten truth. The truth that though order and force is necessary in order to keep peace, boundaries, motives and standards need to be set in order for humanity to remain balanced.
