This prestigious school was founded in 1885 by Leland and Jane Stanford, in honor of their late son, who had died the year before. Over the years Stanford has gone through many economic troubles, but has still cemented itself as one of the greatest schools in the nation on multiple levels. The school’s specialization in Education, Business, Law, Math, and many more has given Stanford one of the greatest reputations of schools in the country. Stanford is one of the most highly ranked academic schools in the country(ranked number 5 by US News), with good reason. Stanford has an ever-changing calendar of events to keep students active and relieve stress. Multiple talks are available every day, as well as events. Some seminars happening today include a talk on Russian politics, one on modern Iran, and another on communism. Besides lectures, a dog-petting break to alleviate academical strain and a modern art convention are also available. Stanford also has impressive two museums on campus and numerous concerts, including a guerilla folk opera.
