Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.” This quote can be connected to Harper Lee’s novel, To Kill a Mockingbird. Harper Lee puts an emphasis on standing up for what is right in this novel, even when you have to make sacrifices. The attribute of courage she values most is standing up for what is right. A few of the ways standing up for what is right is demonstrated is when Atticus defends Tom Robinson when no one else would, Miss Maudie tells Scout to call Boo Radley “Arthur”, and Scout punches Francis after he says bad things about Atticus.
