Standing Up For Equality Essay

Improved Essays
One value that I stand up for is equality. Everyone should be treated equally. I know this will never happen because everyone has different beliefs, and no one can change that. I’m happy that everyone gets to believe what they want, but things get violent, which is not okay. People get spit on, pushed, punched, kicked, and made fun of, just for liking someone of the same gender, having different skin colors, wearing worn down clothes, and having ratty hair. Honestly, how does this define anyone as a person? So, I’m going to be talking about two instances in my life where I have stood up for someone in this position.
The first instance in my life, was when I was a sophomore at Central Noble Junior/Senior High. I sat next to this girl in health class. Her name is Maddy, and Maddy had autism. Sometimes, when she got upset or stressed out, she would spin around in circles or she would start talking and it got louder the longer she talked. Although, she always had a smile on her face. Kids in that class would laugh at her and ag her on. She didn’t know any better. She thought they were being nice to her and just laughing at her jokes. So, every day, when she wasn’t paying

My little brother, Chris, walks differently than other kids. He has a disease called familial paraplegia. This disease causes people to look at him differently, and laugh at him. He gets lonely at times. He knows that our dad, and everyone on his side of the family, has the same problem, but they live far away. He doesn’t see them, and he doesn’t have any friends with the same problem. There was this time, during the summer, when this man pointed at Chris and laughed at him. I got really upset about it, so I went crazy on the guy. I was thinking how awful it was and I was wondering how ignorant someone could be, to be making fun of a 12-year-old for something he can’t help. No one should have to go through that for any

Most of this generation would hardly stand up for what they believe in. An example being if they see someone in distress, instead of helping out, would document it and post it on some type of social media. This starts the whole situation about “1 like = 1 respect” for whatever situation, or hashtags that wouldn’t help out the person or persons involved. One situation I am willing to stand up for must be racism, or small things that I believe in and make me happy. I haven’t stood up for anyone or joined a movement but if I was offered to I would.…

Ever since 1787, and even before, African-Americans have struggled to gain political, legal, social, and economic equality. Although some national and state government programs were constructed to help African-Americans with this perpetual problem, it is also the same state and national government policies that expanded this problem. In fact, this is still a problem that persists today. The national and state governments definitely have gone a long way in providing African Americans with political, legal and social opportunities; however constant setbacks have lessened their effectiveness. Beginning in 1787 there was an unspoken guarantee that all states had the option to decide whether or not they wanted to be slave sates.…

This leads to the unfair treatment of immigrants trying to find a new life in America after being pushed out of their countries by poverty, revolution, and starvation. These events happen with an incompetent government only interested in doing anything to benefit itself. Anthem Essay Topic 1 Equality’s prime motive on sharing his invention was not to improve the world but for egotistic reasons. Equality wanted to become a scholar more than anything and prove himself to the council that he doesn’t belong with the other street sweepers. His motives were wrong, yet had good qualities to them but he should have been doing it to further the success of humankind instead of boasting on himself. If everyone in the world acted as Equality did, then then the world would be much more advanced but everyone would be selfish and wanting to further his or her own success instead of the worlds.…

During World War II between 1939-45, women were progressively obtaining jobs that they likely would not have been able to attain previously due to the absence of males in those fields. And around the 1960s, several federal governments mandated laws for the economic improvement for women like The Equal Pay Act of 1963 and the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Despite almost fifty years of increasing equal opportunities gained by women, and the fact that today women account for approximately 57% in the labor force, their opportunities for leadership roles seem far from equal to their male counterparts. Not only that, the wage gap of women compared to men is almost 22% more (“A Guide to Women 's Equal Pay Rights”). Although the statistic of women in the…

The question regarding liberty and equality is not something that one would think about on a daily basis, moreover the position that I would take regarding new and old liberty and equality. In fact, I myself just started thinking about this recently. If I was asked to define liberty, I would think of all the rights that I have, the fact that I am not pushed or forced to do the things that I do not want to do, and the fact that I have options. If I was to define equality, I would not be as confident as I am defining liberty. In my eyes, the basics of equality means that everyone has the same rights and the same treatment.…
