Standing Up Against Climate Change

Improved Essays
Lately, it seems that young people are finally stepping up to the plate. In Minnesota a group of teens have been fighting their cities about climate change. Both these cities have decided to set resolutions, which are to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to zero by 2040. This is not the only change young people are doing. All around the nation young people are standing up against climate change. This is important to state and local governments because these are the people that will soon be running the country. This will help our current leaders to sleep better at night, with the knowledge of this. It is also important because climate change is a major issue in our country. It impacts our everyday lives, and in the end, could be the end of our

In several respects, global climate change (GCC) represents new conditions. It is not just extreme events and changing rainfall patterns that have started to affect individuals in various parts of the world. There are also discussions in the political community regarding activities of mitigation and adaptation because of climate change. Decisions by others predict effects (by politicians regarding road toll systems, extra taxes on fossil fuel, etc.) even for those who are not personally concerned.…

Being environmentally conscious has been the focus of many people for several years, and by judging how much the media has begun to cover such a topic, it will be the concern of more and more people as time passes. Since this planet is the only one we have to live on so far, we need to take care of it the best we possibly can before it’s too late to fix our mistakes. To start, each person will need to see the reason behind taking care of our planet, which is that global warming is a legitimate issue, and every single person on the planet can either make a positive or negative impact on it. Each of the essays I evaluated spoke of different issues regarding or touching on global warming that I had not previously thought too much about, and effectively…

The Capital Region District’s (CRD) Ready Set Solve Challenge uses their website and social media sites to promote the involvement of post-secondary students in solving climate challenges. Specifically, this event provides students from Royal Roads University, Camosun College, and the University of Victoria with a chance to solve sustainability challenges with organizations devoted to combatting climate change (CRD, 2013). On the website, the CRD promotes the event by summarizing and reporting on the results from the previous year. CRD (2013) mentions a few of the solutions that students in the competition derived, including a youth climate action summer camp, a natural outdoor playground, and a bicycle infrastructure. This strategy represents an effective approach to promoting future challenges.…

For example, the Edison Electric Institute, an organization dedicated to various electric utility companies, has begun to dismantle solar laws around the midwest. They don’t care about how global warming will affect the environment if it means staying in business. Rhode Island may not be the state with the most solar panels everywhere and sunshine, but every state has a government. By showing how much we care about our country, we can convince the government to make these new solar goals. Together we can prevent global warming.…

Joining the Youth Environmental Network of York Region (YENYR) two years ago opened my eyes to the tangible impact youth could have on the community. Fast forward one and a half years and our team was planning “Impulse,” a pitch competition meant to fund environmentally sustainable projects. Organizing this conference taught me three important lessons about teamwork: the power of getting started, the power of having a common vision, and that a team is composed of individuals. After the loss of a co-chair and overall lack of productivity in the first half of the term, the YENYR team was losing dedication and motivation.…

NASA is one of the companies studying climate change by having satellites observe Earth’s land, air, water and ice. This helps learn the past and present of the Earth’s climate while also being able to predict future climate. The United States along with many other countries are trying to reduce and limit the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere to try and prevent climate change. Many people are helping cause climate change without realizing it, to help stop climate change, use less energy and water. Another thing is turn off the lights when leaving a…

About the twentieth century, scientists found that global warming made the temperature change higher and higher as time goes on.…

Global warming is an issue that is often overlooked when observing modern day politics. It may seem like no one on planet earth cares, but a some people actually do, one of them being Al Gore.…

Methodology My research methodology is designed to eliminate the dichotomy between traditional natural disasters, thought to be exacerbated by climate change and ones where climate change plays little to no role in their occurrence, severity, and detectability (traditionally earthquakes and volcanoes are believed to not be affected by climate change). There are three main parts of the methodology. The first part involves collecting data from the worst natural disasters by ICCC categories [biological (epidemic), geophysical (volcano), hydrological (flood), meteorological (storm), and climatological (heat wave)] for each country in existence; this corresponds to 1176 discrete events, and the majority of the data comes from the EM-DAT Database…
