Do standardized test scores actually show the progress of a school district or are the results actually insignificant in showing progress? This argument has been long standing and is still very controversial when it comes to the United States education. Standardized testing has been used for decades and has only become more predominant in education as time has passed. Standardized testing started to become established in the late 1800s, by people like Horace Mann, who felt that standardized testing was a necessity. With the clear evidence that has been presented that pertains to the present and to history, I feel that standardized testing is anything but a necessity. Not only does standardized testing harm our students it also hurts the education
