According to many different reliable sources, such as proandcon.org and Columbia University it states… “ A 2001 study published by the Brookings Institution found that 50-80% of year-over-year test score improvements were temporary and "caused by fluctuations that had nothing to do with long-term changes in learning..." This study shows how standardized tests do not have long term effects on students and isn’t beneficial towards improving their education. Another source states, “Standardized testing evaluates a student’s performance on one particular day and does not take into account external factors. There are many people who simply do not perform well on tests. Many of these students are smart and understand the content, but it doesn’t show on the test. Many students also develop test anxiety which hinders performance. Finally, there are so many external factors that play into test performance. If a student has an argument with their parents the morning of the test, chances are their focus isn’t going to be where it should be” This source of evidence that not all students will have a perfect day and the external factors affect the way they do on the test, and people who do well in class are not always the best takers. Others may not feel the same way, but there are crucial reasons to support it: starts an early stage of stress, is discriminatory against foreign language speakers, and is not the best way to evaluate students, Us as a community need to step up to the plate and make something about these tests are done, to prevent the worst in students. The government has done a good job by keeping younger kids (such as K-2) away from these stressful tests, but what about everyone else? Without a doubt, standardized testing does not make a significant impact on students
