Standardized Test Scores Essay

Teachers pay should not be based off of standardized test scores. It’s the responsibility of a teacher to give you, the students, the tools to learn, then it’s the student's job to actually apply the tools. Do you think you apply the tools? Research has shown that many students that are either in high school or college have other factors that affect test grades other than the teachers. Those things include; test anxiety, sleep deprivation, and other things. Students have the expectation to do what they are supposed to...teachers also. The pay of the teachers should not wary due to the test scores of students because of multiple situations. One major reason researchers say students tend to do bad on test is, the anxiety that could possibly come with it. Test scores is an unfair way to reflect how well a teacher can teach students. Sleep deprivation is most common in college and high school students, which an article of teens about sleep deprivation states, “Biological sleep patterns shift toward later times for both sleeping and waking during adolescence -- meaning it is natural to not be able to fall asleep before 11:00 pm. Teens need about 8 to 10 hours of sleep each night to function best. Most teens do not get enough sleep — one study found that only 15% reported sleeping 8 1/2 hours on school nights “ (sleepfoundation.org). The evidence that was presented was showing that there is 85% of highschool and college students that don't get enough sleep, which is a reason why students could score bad on a test. If a student's didn't get enough sleep because they were studying or other reasons, their brain can't fully function which could lead to doing bad on a test and having a low grade; which again is not the teachers fault so how much income they have should not vary because of test
