After last week’s writing, I found myself in quite a fog of insecurity. Thankfully the most recent installment of YITE brought me back to the sunny side of teaching philosophy. Reading about the art of teaching was rather inspiring even. The quote from the text, “approaching instruction in a variety of ways to provide multiple paths for students to both learn the content and develop the skills of the curriculum is artistry (pg 147),” caught my attention. Often in my life I have gotten the impression that some people consider the position of a teacher as that of merely a figurehead, an adult to put in front of a group of kids to keep them occupied.…

The artifact I chose for standard 6 was the letter I wrote to my student’s parents for PED 356. This letter was sent to the parents of the student to inform them of the behavior I noticed, improvements made through out the semester, and skills that could be worked on at home. The letter to parents from PED 356 relates to Element 6.4 because in the letter I demonstrate my ability to discuss some weaknesses that could be improved in a respectful and sensitive manor. I first discussed in the letter the great personality the student expressed during class and all the improvement she made through out the semester.…

Final Exam Essay Prompt: Write about what, specifically, you are going to do with your new found knowledge. They say knowledge comes from experiences, and the experiences this past year have shed a different light on my world. Our actions are direct effects of the world surrounding us, causing every choice I now make to direct, and redirected by many of the recent things we have learned. From grammar rules to discussion points, and the words of our various authors, I have gained new perspective because each lesson has taught me something new, and often it was about myself even more so than the assignment.…

For me, I have had many different experiences, good and bad, that have helped and shaped me into the person/teacher I want to be and how I should teach it. I had multiple good coaches and teachers over the past years of my life and they are the ones that have influenced me the most. I am the kind of person that has to watch how it is done before I can do it. I can’t just read a book and remember everything. I am a hands on kind of person and this is one reason why I felt like Physical Education would be a good fit for me.…

One of the most important things that I learned about myself as a teacher, is that I can plan and follow and carry out a lesson that I create. This lesson plan was a little stressful for me, because this was the first time that I had created a lesson that I would actually teach to a group of students. It was a great feeling to plan a lesson, coordinate all the details, and carry it out smoothly. It also has taught me that a lesson may not be ideal for each student in your group or class but reflecting on the lesson after can help you to make changes to your next lesson to further help those students.…

In writing classes the most common first day question is whether or not spelling and grammar will count. Most commonly students focus more on how they are writing and if it is grammatically correct or not rather than writing their inner thoughts. Jack Connor in his essay, “Will Spelling Count?”, argues that writing requires meticulous efforts through his use of cause and effect, comparison and contrast, and division and classification. Connor displays cause and effect throughout his essay to show how different ways of teaching affect students performance and effort level. When Connor first began teaching he wanted to be a different type of teacher.…

Reflective Practice in Professional Development of Early Childhood Educators Based on my personal own observations, Early Childhood Education (ECE) teachers usually go through many professional developmental stages. Accordingly, the level of ECE competency for each of these professional developmental stages depends on mastery of teaching techniques, choice of appropriate learning tools, and implementation of effective educational methods or frameworks. Therefore, ECE teachers can progressively move through a cycle of professional developmental stages through a series of self-assessments, which are guided by the principles of proven effective teaching practices endorsed by community of educators or required by educational institutions.…

This standard involves teachers using different concepts and perspectives to help learners solve problems and this is definitely what I was working towards when creating my study. I wanted to use different concepts, such as Bloom’s Taxonomy, and integrate them into how I was going to observe and collect data from the students. Standard #6, Assessment, where teachers have to understand how to use different methods of assessments was also frequently addressed throughout this assignment. When deciding how I was going to collect data from the students to be able to access their learning, I found student journals to be a good option. While I’ll be collecting their assignments and assessments, I thought it would be fair to the students to have another way of understanding if they enjoyed the technology or…
